Hi! Tried searching through some of the older threads, but I don't think I found excactly what I was looking for.

I have been playing Civ 4 1.0, and all has been well, as far as I can remember. Then I updated to 1.52, and the game turned down all my graphics to low to improve performance. (Even though everything had been going smoothly on medium.) And suddenly, performance sank drasticly, and what's worse: the game started chrashing totally. After less than 20 mins of playing, the game shuts down my whole computer totally, without any warning. It just cuts the power. I updated to the new 1.6 patch, but still it's the same deal. I think it may be some hardware conflict or something, but it never happened in 1.0 as far as I can remember, and certainly not every 20 min!

I have a HP laptop, with intel pentium(r) 1,8 ghz, 1024 mb ram. The graphic driver is a 915GM\GMS intel chipset, which I just updated, to no effect. I'll try reinstalling and backdating to 1.0, but any further tips would be appreciated!

Just like to give my thanks for the tip! I cut two rectangular sticks and put under the laptop, and it worked like a charm! When I felt underneath it before, it would be red hot, but now it's only a warm little breeze! No more chrashing, and my sister can play sims 2 as well.

Earth 1000AD still moves a little bit syrupy in 1952, but that is only to be expected, and I'm running at medium, not low graphics. (But I'm kicking the russian empire's butt with my lovely little panzers and gunships, and soon I'll have entire asia under my contorl and hopefully win a domination victory! muahhaha.:D )
