All,

Is there a way to know the total output of science for a civ as a whole (not just a city)?

I am curious because I would like to see the added benefit of building another city, creating a harbor in a city, changing civics, etc

Thx

If there is, I can't find it. Wish I could !
You can see how much you're spending on Research, in the Finance Adviser screen: the conversion from cash to flasks is a simple 1:1. But the total research you are actually getting is fairly certain to be greater than that, for obscure reasons.

im sure the value in the finance advisor screen is th abssolute nuber of beakers your civ produces each turn, icant think why it would be difrent as it sums the city contributions and all multipliers are applied at city level.

The total science output is the sum of all your cities' output as shown in the financial advisor screen multiplied by a factor depending on how many optional prerequisites (i.e. techs that point an arrow to the tech you're researching) you know and depending on how many other civs already know the tech. This factor is by default 1. Add 0.20 for each optional prerequisite you know and add 0.30 divided by the number of players in the game for each opponent who already knows the tech. In other words:
total science output = total city output * (1 + 0.20 * OptionalTechsKnown + 0.30 / PlayersInGame * PlayersWhoHaveTheTech)
