I wonder if anyone has ever been in a game of RFC where the Natives have built a Totem Pole in a city?

Interestingly, Totem Pole is in the civilopedia as one of the possible buildings, but is unique to the Native Americans. I think this is just a carry-over from BTS and perhaps was left by mistake? The Totem Pole is basically a beefed up Monument that also gives barracks upgrades for archery units built in the city.

For a Totem Pole to ever be built though, firstly the Natives in North America would have to capture a city somewhere - but I've seen this often enough for it not to be too unusual. But how would you ever know if the Natives had built one? I think there would be no chance that the Totem Pole would survive city conquest by a human player, so I don't know if you could ever tell if Totem Poles were built. Would the Totem Pole be converted to a Monument upon conquest?

Certainly, I've never seen a native archery unit in North America. Just hordes of Dog Soldiers and occasionally Jag Warriors.

Anyone had any further experience with Totem Poles in RFC?

Interesting question indeed. :-)
As far as I know, even if they would have built a totem it would vanish upon conquest hence no cultural buildings "survive" a conquest, to my knowledge though. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this point.

Other then that, I agree, I haven't seen any others then Dog soldiers and Jaguars either...which is a little funny since I thought it was very common for the native Indians to use bows. :-)

City graphics. You need to look closely, through...

A related question is whether natives can build research after they capture a city, and can they know calendar. :)

do the Natives know Archery?

They do. I've seen Archers in Mombasa and Quelimane.

BIW, the Natives can't do it. They are based on the Zulu civilization, and their special building is Ikhanda.

That is what I thought lone wolf, they were introduced in Warlords, after all.
I personally can't recall seeing a native archer, only melee units, but I generally stick to Eurasia before colonization.
