Tourism is a gimmicky addition

Thing with tourism is I think it can be synergized better with faith and culture. Right now tourism is a "dead end" stat - you get it, and it does one thing, and that's it. Everything else in the game can be converted to something else. Tourism is a product. It doesn't actually do anything other than when ideology comes along.

Also, I find it extremely annoying when some laggard civs don't ever get to ideology - at least in a few games I've played there was always one or two civ that took forever to get to an ideology (if I don't finish the game before) and these should be the ones most affected. I think there should be a rule where if half the civs have picked an ideology then everyone else will be forced to choose as well.

none of your ideas have anything to do with 'tourism' though. having more tourists in your land doesn't prompt other people to sell their land to you.

It is rather strange, but I'm just thinking of ways to connect things that I find rather weak in Civ5. In Civ4, borderlines between civs were very dynamic. That's not really the case with Civ5, unless you use a GG. Even then, I don't get the feeling I am culturally overpowering other civs in a noticeable way. That's what tourism is supposed to be for, and thus I made a connection.

You can just say that the tourism influences a plot of land for them to become another culture and secede to other civ.

In the end, what I'm really advocating is a more active and diversified use of the tourism feature. I really welcome and look forward to anything that could improve it.

I find this thread pretty funny when contrasted with this one where the poor guy complains of inevitable defeat by mass tourism regardless of victory type.
