Your civ determines the mana provided by your palace, and will to an extent also determine what other wonders are available (e.g. very unlikely you'll be able to, or even want to build Wyrmhold unless your Kuriotates/Sheaim).
I've always fancied the free life mana of the Tomb of Sucellus, but the AI seems to always build this by about turn 5. Alright, I'm exaggerating, but you get the point. I never bother to go for this one now.
I managed a Tower victory as the Sheaim (had Wyrmhold and Soul Forge, but already had chaos mana from palace and death mana from an earlier node anyway). Be prepared to go a-conquering, because even if you can get some mana sources from wonders, you'll be needing a lot of nodes.
Also, consider the Rites of Oghma for generating some extra nodes, though where those nodes appear is subject to luck. I didn't do this in my game (wasn't really aware of what the ritual was at that point).
