24 turns ago, when the Zulus declared war on me because I wouldn't give them 100 gp, the Zulus and Indians declared a trade embargo against me. The war lasted six turns, when the Zulus made peace (and gave me 5 gpt) after I captured their city with the GL. :smug:

Now I'd like to trade with the Indians. They'd probably want my iron and I definitely would like to have some of their extra spice. But we can't trade, because of the embargo.

I'd really like to grab the Zulus by the throat and tell them to cancel their embargo so I can trade with the Indians. :wallbash:

ermm yes... are you actually asking anything?

You could pay one of thme to go to war with the other... automatically cancels any embargos they had together.

Yeah, but then he'd be at war with the Zulu again, breaking the peace treaty, or he'd be at war with the Indians, so he couldn't trade with them!

I am a bit confused to why you had actually posted.

Ah fair enough.... i just expect rants to include explamation marks i guess...

exclamation marks even!

I have a few times. Say I want to go to war with civ A, who has exactly one source of saltpeter just over the border. I want the saltpeter. I don't want to face oodles of cavs, though, if I can help it, so I make a trade embargo against civ A with any other civ that has saltpeter to spare. Now when I capture saltpeterville, civ A is out of resources, out of luck, and out of the game. :)

That said, the right opportunity doesn't really come up very often. Frequently, the civ that can sell saltpeter is already trading with civ A, in which case an embargo won't be accepted and the best I can do is bribe them into a military alliance.

Anibody wants some cofee with american marines? I'm with Japan and they´ve broken my defense lyne.

The only time I use an embargo is to try to get a civ on my side without actually signing a military alliance. Usually it doesn't work, though [pissed]
The only time the AIs embargos against me are more of an annoyance, is on Marla's europe map. As, England there was absolutley no way to get any rubber since I was at war with half of europe and the other half had an embargo against me. :ack:

What???

Either wrong thread or just a random non-sequitur.

I'll use trade Embargos as a symbolic way to strengthen an alliance, and to help make sure that my enemy will still suffer even if my allies are suckered into a peace treaty.
