I know this is an age old question and I have probably read the answer in the past. I asked the AI, but I do not think it understood completely.

The premise: civ A has an MPP with civ B. If I eventually go to war with A and eventually trigger the
MPP, so B has to DoW me and the trade I had with A is broken. Who takes the rep hit?

That is what I thought. It seems to be poor logic though. The reason I do not deliver, is they declared war. They took the action, not me.

You might not take a reputation hit in such a situation, if it's just them declaring war.

But, I'm not so sure about when another party is involved with an MPP.

In the case that you're describing, it sounds like CivA is declaring on you? If that is what you mean, then any trades you had with CivA would be broken by CivA's DoW = you do not take a rep-hit for those broken deals.

CivA's MPP with CivB won't be activated as long as you're defending. Unless and until you attack CivA on their territory (including cross-border bombardment or ZoC-hits), CivB will not DoW -- but even after they do, any trades you had with CivB which are thereby broken, were (likewise) not broken by you.

The only situations I can think of where your rep might be at risk from CivA's DoW, would be if you had any active Resource-export deal(s) with any third party (including CivB) which was broken e.g. because (1) you lost access to roads/ Harbours/ sea-lanes controlled by CivA, and/or (2) you lost control of the town(s) which was supplying those resource(s).

I would have access to still deliver over land and ocean. Once I get back to the game, it will not take me long to eliminate the Sioux, though their MPP partner is not very close.

I think the somewhat unfair way trade rep can sometimes be damaged (and the duration of the damage) is another argument for making a building trade by air (as well as air trade speeding up the End of Turn period).
