Of all they talk about in the press release info, there is scant mention of trade. Are we to assume that this means there will be little change from Civ III in the way goods are traded?

We do know that food is a tradable good, which I think is a good idea, especially now that there seem to be different TYPES of food. It also appears as if other previously untradable resources like whales and gold are tradable which is also good.

They changed trading almost completely from Civ II to Civ III. The thing is, there are aspects of both that I like. I like the idea of trade routes. Establishing and blocking/pirating trade routes have both played a major role in history. It would be cool if those things had a place in this game.

Please respond with anything you've heard about how trading will be done in Civ IV.

There was a bit of info, such as that trade routes can be connected by roads and by rivers. There is also information that there will be an overall trading screen, where you can see the trade options for all civs at the same time (rather than have to contact each civ in turn).

Really!?!

This is like the idea I saw in that thead about a better diplomatic advisor. This is incredibly, unbeleiveably awesome. I mean, this will make trade so much better if I can just see what people want/have instead of talking to every leader every turn! If Sid really wants to simplify simplify simplify, this is a good step! Hooray for this if it truly is in!

That does sound cool.. it cuts down the tediousness (is that a word) of contacting all the civs

Yeah, I did see that and that will be awesome. I can't imagine why they didnt think of that for civ III. I eralize the whole trade set up was new for civ III but c'mon, it's nice to know what other civs could use.

It would also be nice to see what technologies other civs have without having to talk to them. I think you could do that in civ II.

Why can't they include something that makes resources 'quantitative' as in you can have like 400(tons?) of iron or something like that (spicies, horses, whatever) and you need like 10 iron to build a swordman, and 200 to build a factory.

This would add so much to trading, and also make it so that 'one iron' resource would not be enough to supply an entire 'empire' for the resource like in civ III. It's much more relalistic with the real world too. You could have 'some' resource, but maybe not enough, so you need to buy more from a supplier.

I just think this would add a lot to the game.

Sorry for reposting this, i guess this is a better spot for it though.

On that trade screen it would be NICE if you could offer something... press the OFFER key and see what ALL the civs are willing to give you for it.

Under each civ there would be a reject/accept box and you tick off each one... and then press a TRADE button.

Of course this would obviously NOT allow you to trade more than you have. If you only have one IRON and you're offering it... you could only tick off one accept button.

Also, IF the civs offer less to you, if more of the other civs have a particular technology, then you would NOT be allowed to trade a technology immediately to all the civs at the same time... you'd have to trade it to one, and then re-offer it.

Just a thought... It allows me to trade directly to the civ who offers me the MOST for WRITING without asking each one in turn.

Of course... when a civ wants to trade then you should be a part of the same group of civs responding to that offer.
