For some time now I've had the idea of trying to mod Civ4 into a Pratizier/Port Royal type of game.

Basically you play the role of a merchant and your goal is to develop a couple of cities through trade. The (costal) cities are placed on the map as you start the game and you only have a single ship. You can move into a city and buy goods then transport them to another city and sell them for profit. Each city consumes and produces goods at the end of each turn. The prices of each goods are market prices.

For example one city produces ore, you sail in buy some and sail to a city that produces tools and sell your ore there. What type of goods are available in a city determines how it develops. To grow there must be food in a city. A bigger city can produce more ore or transform more ore into tools.

That is the basic of the game. You can of course add lots of stuff such as pirates, quests, expeditions that go to a far away country outside of the map, player factories, founding new cities, multiplayer, buy/build new ships...

Is there interest in such a mod?

This might work ot better on Colonization basis.
