I've recently found out that transforming grassland (shield) can be very beneficial since it turns into pheasant. Now I tried to transform other special resource tiles, but when I tried to transform peat with like 10 engineers nothing happend after 5 turns, while other special resource tiles did transform accordinaly. I wonder why this happend and if someone might be able to explain it to me:confused:

Thanks in advance

grasslaands have no resorce of there own thay only have the grass shild that shows up based on a pattern similar to what is below where X is a shild grass and O is a non shild grass every other type of square has the possability of one of 2 types of resorces based on the map seed used so the square you tereformed most likely changed into a grassland without a shild.

hope that helps.

I don't transform much in my games, so maybe someone else can give you a more expert answer. You might also look in the Great Library, a Civ2 forum at Apolyton, for articles on "hidden specials" and "settlers and engineers".

I think you got lucky with the pheasant. Every map has a special pattern of tiles where the specials can be, but if one of those tiles is on grass, it is "hidden". You happened to picked one of those, and transforming it revealed its secret. If you don't know the pattern (which isn't hard) you will need a lot of luck to do this again.

The engineers should succeed on the peat pretty soon. I forget the exact rules on how they cooperate (or not), but IIRC they pass "charges" to each other each turn until the job is done. Ideally, all the charges go into one guy (so they are not competing), but I forget whether/how you can control this process by clicking on them. Sometimes it seems a stack of them is no faster than just 1 or 2.

I suspected as much that the grassland with the shield that turned into pheasant was an ''hidden'' one, since I've seen how the special tires work in the map editor. Otherwise it would have been ridiculous of course if you could turn every grassland with shield into pheasant or silk. But anyway, thanks for the confirmation, since it was confusing me yesterday:crazyeye: .
