In my opinion, there are two basic reasons for such interest in Civ games (and other warlike games)

1. no good wars recently
2. world domination is cool

Will anyone oppose point #1?

I disagree with both statements.

BTW, what is a "good" war" ?

Wars will be the downfall of mankind. Trust me, you don't want to see another "good war", not in this day and age.

I lie civ because of the building, not the destroying thanks.....

25 years ago, I lived in a village in the Cotswolds. The owner of the Post Office there used to say to me, "What we need today is a good war." He meant it too.

I don't think it was the idea of the war itself that he wanted. There was no enemy he wanted to trounce. What he wanted was what he saw as the "beneficial social effects". He wanted the feeling of national unity. He wanted a sense of perspective which showed up the trivia of modern day living for what it was. He wanted young people to benefit from a little discipline.

Of course he got his wish just a few years later in the Falklands War.

Well I'm still waiting for Ecco's explanation.

As far as I'm concerned there are no good wars.

And in civ I'm less interested in destroying than building like drake said.
