Triggering Events through Technology?

I am currently trying to incorporate a concept as part of which "technology" would be replaced by a seperate path of events influenced by the player who first reached a "plot point" through technology. This would best be implemented, however, by triggering events for the first player to research a technology and then give them a choice on what will happen in the seperate plot. Would this be possible?

There is a "entry point" onTechAquired in the EventManager. You should be able to trigger further scripts/events from there.
