Troubles with the saves

I downloaded the Contender save for GOTM 16, as well as the HOF 1.61.010 mod (and installed it). When I tried to open it, it said the assets were locked etc. etc. and then closed Civ IV.

I thought that perhaps, in some of my modding, I had forgotten to back up a file; no worries, I have both my CDs and it'll take me 10 minutes to reinstall (haven't played a GOTM before and I would really like to start .

However, even after reinstallation, repatching to 1.61, and downloading a fresh HOF .exe and installing it, I got the same message.

Any ideas?

"The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed."

if you took backups, and left them in the same dir as the file you changed, then the backups would cause the problem..
the game check the entire content of the dirs, so having extra files would cause the file checks to fail.. also when uninstalling, these extra files are not deleted.. so you would need to go in an manually delete them after an uninstall
