Truly Coop play?

Is there anyway to have a game that is purely coop? Meaning a game where people are effectively able to control the same civ or something similar. I am looking to do some coop games with some friends, but I will likely be afk for periods of time. I'd like to have some way for the other players to effectively either take over for me or force a turns end, when they are ready to proceed and I've been afk.

Thanks,
Marc

As far as I know anybody can take control of your civ as long as it's not password protected. But if you just want a certain person to take control, add a password and tell that person the password. They can then take over from you.

If you expect to be afk for a while then just leave the game and rejoin when you can. The AI will take over for you in the interim.

If you can't stand the idea of the AI playing your civ, then use the turn timer and your turn will end after a certain amount of time. Personally I'd rather have the AI play for me then have my civ do nothing at all.

I used to play co-op on civ 2 together with a friend. I controlled one city, he the other, I controlled the galley, he the warrior. In other words, we gave eachother units and cities to control in the same civ.

wouldnt it be easier to each have your own civs and then place yourselves on the same team? you share tech and resources and LoS so i suppose its a little like playing the same civ :)
