It's not working...I eliminated the possiblity of any networking problems by entering into a LAN game with normal Civilization 4 which worked fine. Any idea why it won't work? Hamachi can't be the ONLY way to get a multiplayer game working can it? And if so...how do I make one?

Virtual LAN
Due to some problems getting games with more than 4 people connected properly in multiplayer, we've been using the virtual LAN program, Hamachi. Click the following link for more information and a download (grab the beta version):
http://www.hamachi.cc/download/
Once installed, run it, and go through the steps it says to join a virtual network, choosing FallFromHeaven (you'll have to type it in I think, and its case sensitive), with password ffh
So far it's worked quite nicely, and is the best way to talk realtime to other players outside of the game.

Yeah, I read that but it's only 1 other person on the LAN so it shoudn't be a problem should it?

Don`t bother using the lan option. Use the direct-IP. Just make sure you have chosen IP-addresses and you`re ready to go. I do it all the time. Just make sure you don`t play on a too big map, then the game eventually will slow down almost to a halt.

I've had trouble starting LAN games even on vanilla Civ4. I usually have to restart the program/computers a few times. It's probably something with how I've set up our home network, but other games (AoE3, for instance) works fine the first try.

i ussally play on a home lan. i have a desktop + laptop linked over a 10/100mps lan and ffh works fine.

normally one player has to go into the multiplayer(lan) set up screen (where you would pick characters and the like) before the other player enters the game lobby otherwise the game wont show up.

so once player 1 is in and picking his civ, player 2 should enter the lobby and be able to see the game, then its just a matter of clicking join!

If you want to play LAN the best way is connecting your 2 PC with a crossover cable. Otherwise, as suggested, direct connect is your best friend ;)
