This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play.

- What did you think about before starting the game, what was your approach to this game?
- Where did you settle and what did you build first?
- How did the terrain and map settings affect your early decisions?
- What were your initial priorities?
- What tech path did you follow and why?
- What Social Policies did you choose?
- What Wonders did you try to get and did you get them?
- Did you get a religion? What religious beliefs did you pick?

I'm at turn 102 now, just unlocked keshiks a few turns before and oracle'd the left side of honor. They are gonna get some great experience soon :) I'm trying to go for Ethiopia now and probably go clockwise around the world. I should make some more keshiks and horseman as 2nd army, but always "feel" I want to build infrastructure instead. I'm building petra for fun.

- What did you think about before starting the game, what was your approach to this game?
Chariot archers.. Already get them some xp before upgrading to keshik.

- Where did you settle and what did you build first?
Settles in a spot I didn't consider in the opening post. I scouted north with the warrior and found the extra bonus resources so in the end I settled on a hill next to the river getting a lot of pastures.

- How did the terrain and map settings affect your early decisions?
Lot's of flat terrain is good for chariot. They made me go for Persepolis first, because that cap is not built on a hill in flatland. Ulundi after that for the same reasons.

- What were your initial priorities?
Don't remember the exact build order, but I focussed on 3 scouts, because of large map. I wanted to go for 3 city NC, so I built 1 settler after the free one, and let the 2 new cities make a library immediately. The timing was right so the capital made grand library very late and then NC.
- What tech path did you follow and why?
Chariots -> NCollege -> Civil Service -> Keshiks -> University

- What Social Policies did you choose?
I filled liberty except the last (skipped meritocracy), and honor left side

- What Wonders did you try to get and did you get them?
GL, Pyramid, Chichen Itza, Oracle, yes got all of them.

- Did you get a religion? What religious beliefs did you pick?
Not yet i focussed on getting the culture from pasture pantheon.

I'm on turn 148. Around turn 100 I defeated Shaka (he declare war on me, BTW), then went after Darius and I just finished razing the last Persian city. I also just got a religion. Here's a screenshot of my core cities, with the mini-map cropped out since I'm past 100 turns. Everybody hates me now, so it's about time for the whole world to declare a joint war against me. Japan is the only one I'm a *little* worried about. I'm being haunted by Shaka's ghost  and probably Darius now too. (Complete Kills is weird)

First thing I built was a scout, then a monument, and I think next was an archer. The first tech I researched was Animal Husbandry rather than my usual Pottery because I wanted to locate horses. I'm trying not to build too many wonders, but I did get Petra (in Beshbalik), Zeus (a city state wanted it and I figured why not), and Oracle. Usually when I play Mongolia, I forget to build any horses and have to rely on pikes and scouts to capture the cities, but I have one horse already and I'm building another; that's probably enough. I'm playing nice with the city-states; maybe when I research Chivalry one will give me a knight.

Beshbalik has almost as much production as my capital, so that's where I'll build the Heroic Epic.

Religious beliefs are God-King, Tithe, and Pagodas. I'll have to watch out for Ethiopian prophets and missionaries.

Social policies were Tradition opener, full Honor (right side first), now I'm finishing up Tradition. After that I'll start on Commerce. My plan is to have 2 armies; one to go east and the other west. Right now I just have one and they are mostly in Persepolis.

I went 3 city tradition. NC before Chivalry. I'm not sure if the NC was even necessary, I probably built too much infrastructure for a fast win.

My cities are doing great though, got Gods of the Open Sky for +1 culture per pantheon, and stables everywhere for lots of production.

Went after the Zulus first to prevent them from getting Impis. Took their cpaital with Chariot Archers in turn 105.

Hi all, I'm in the middle of this game but my game keeps crashing during the AI's turn. If I reload the save, it still crashes. Anyone know a workaround?

So far I've tried verifying game files, uninstalling EUI, turning down graphics settings. A fix I've read about involves using IGE to delete AI units that are bugging out, but I don't think that fits within GotM rules :nono:.
