Well, I wasn't able to finish in under 200 turns as I had hoped. I got to Plastics by turn 167, but it took me 33 turns to finish the game. I made several mistakes which cost me a few turns. The biggest was when I was one turn from finishing a GS and I finished a policy for my Liberty finisher. I looked to see if it would be possible to get another policy in time to get the one extra GS before Liberty & Hubble put any more natural GS out of reach and missed the opportunity to use Sydney Opera House (with a GE which I had available) for this purpose. That extra GS cost me probably 2 turns (so still would not have been under Plastics +30 turns).
- Did you use your UU?
I built a couple for defense, but I would have built Archers anyway. The UU doesn't make much of a difference.
- Did you use spying to your advantage?
Not really. As Babylon I kept up in science in the early game and ran away by about the Renaissance Era. I put one spy in my capital for defense and the rest were diplomats.
- Did the map type help or hinder victory and how?
The extra space really helped (as did all of the salt). Aside from my conquest of Assur, I was at peace for the whole game. Having only one continent makes scouting easier and allows an earlier World Fair.
- How did the difficulty level affect your game decisions?
I did not build Great Library. AI always gets it on Immortal. There were a few other early wonders which I did without as well. By about the Renaissance Era I was far enough ahead to get my pick of the wonders.
I also built the Porcelain Tower as soon as it was available. On Emperor and below I can generally allow this one to wait until the end so that natural GS are cheaper (perhaps 1-2 extra GS). With Korea in the game on Immortal I knew this wold go if I didn't grab it.
- Was Faith helpful to achieve victory? How?
Yes, I was able to build a Shrine and get Earth Mother for extra Faith from all the salt. I had Pagodas in 7/8 cities (the final city did not convert to my religion until the Modern Era so the cost was too high).
- What Social Policies did you choose and in what order?
Opened Tradition
Liberty to Collective Rule & Citizenship
Finished Tradition
Full Rationalism
Commerce to Mercantilism (right side)
Exploration +3 policies
Finished Liberty
Also Freedom +6 (specialist bonuses and gold for SS components)
- Did enjoy playing Babylon?
I always enjoy playing Babylon.
