TSG113 Opening Actions

- Describe your opening strategy choices. How did the terrain/neighbors affect this?

Settled in place and sent warrior scouting to the east. He got a ruin upgrade to spearman, witch was very much needed to stop the German settler and warrior coming for my riversystem. DOW'ed Bismarck and got a quick a cheap early worker. He offered peace soon afterwards, but knowing that he tends to hold grudges I kept an eye open.

BO was scout, starting atlaist, switched to pyramids as soon as pottery was researched. finished atlaist, started granary, waited for 3 pop and spit out 2 settlers. First went to secure the citrus and as a blocker-city for germany to the east. The second I planned on setting to the penninsula to the west, but was forwarded settle by Washington. :| So I found my 3rd city 3 tiles north of Sofia on the river.

With 3 cities I went for a fast NC. Tried Colossus, was beaten to it by Washington. Got Oracle. Tried Petra in my second expansion, ambitious I know. But nobody got Desert-Faith and all the capitals I had scouted up to this point had no desert next to them. Siam finished Petra 2 turns before me.

Around turn 90 Bismarck DoW'ed me. Had one pikemen and an atlaist at that point, can't think why he thought I was an easy target. Quickly switching production, atlaist are really cheap, I managed to destroy his invading army and as soon as my horsemen were pillaging his luxes north of Berlin he made a generous peace-offer.

Now we have turn 111, I'm getting universities up in my cities, but still I'm lagging behind. Siam is really killing it this game. First in all demographics, spaming wonders, spreading its religion has a Capital with 28 pop, and 3 expansions with 20, 18, 18.

- What Social Policies did you choose and why?

Went for tradition, cause I didn't see enough good land for a liberty game.

- When did the Long Count begin for you? How do you plan to use it?

Turn 106, took a GS and planted it. Next GE to be used on Forbidden Palace, although I doubt I have a chance at that. Still last in tech, at least not alone. Tied with the Germans.

- Did you found a religion? If so, what belief choices were made?

Yes got 4th Religion. I had 3rd Pantheon I picked Religious Idols, but really wanted Stone Circles, which was gone as second. I had 4 early workers (1 from germany, 1 from a CS and 2 from barb-camps) so quarries would have been much better faithwise than Religious Idols. Enhanced my religion with tithe, peace gardens and temple culture.

Never beaten Deity before, but I'll give it another go here.

Settled in place and got up a couple of scouts. Met Bismark early, but he have been rather friendly to me. Though he keeps on taking cities from Austria and Siam. Settled second city to the left of the captial, and the third one a way down towards Siam to get some more lux. They didn't mind much, but the Iroquois didn't like it much.

Going to try to take this mostly peacefully, and I'm great friends with everyone except Germany and Monty at the moment. I'm way behind everyone though, so this should be hard for me to grind out a win. I need to keep Germany in wars and somehow catch up to the rest to have a slight chance.

- Describe your opening strategy choices. How did the terrain/neighbors affect this?
Germany was very powerful as soon as I met them, so I need to keep them busy enough to not notice us.

- What Social Policies did you choose and why?
Tradition, I'm not used to Deity, so I doubt I'll get many cities.

- When did the Long Count begin for you? How do you plan to use it?
Haven't gotten it yet. A couple of turns away from Theology so far. How I'm going to use it? No clue, haven't played as Mayans before.

- Did you found a religion? If so, what belief choices were made?
Nope, all religions went very early. Brazil was the first, then the rest in a matter of turns. Was about 15 turns away from a prophet, but I'll take whatever they spread to me.
