Welcome to the TSG148 Opening Actions thread.

STOP - Please do not continue reading this thread until you have completed at least 80 to 100 turns in your game.

This thread is used to discuss the game once you've started playing through your first 100 turns. Apart from normal decency, the only posting restrictions are to please not post videos until the deadline is finished and to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. Please remember that we are running a family friendly site, so express anger or frustration with this in mind. :)

97 turns in, I have the NC built and I'm running at 60 BPT. I have the God of the Open Sky pantheon (culture from pastures) but I'm not going for a religion, because the Sri Pada wonder is kind of in a garbage spot for a city. I'll steal a religion from someone else.

- Used my UA to scout quickly for good city spots and ruins (plus to find other civilizations. I declared on Maria early and stole a worker.)
- Early tech priorities were calendar for all the lux spots, sailing, bronze working, and philosophy. Now I'm teching to compass so I can go on a galleass rampage
- Still haven't teched construction, so no Moai for me. Fortunately my pantheon is keeping me afloat in the culture department.
- Planning on a violent culture victory but I haven't decided who will be my first target. I think Dido has the great lighthouse (plus she's untrustworthy) so maybe her?

I'm surprised by the lack of good land. I really thought there would be lots of good dirt to choose from, but I'm not really seeing it. I settled on top of the gems to the north, and although it's vulnerable to attack, it should be a powerhouse with 7 fish tiles. My first attempt at Deity, so it'll probably end in spectacular failure, but so far so good, even though I trail in score significantly.
 
I sent my first Maori due east. He came close to circumnavigating the map without seeing land so that was unlucky. The scout went west, then north and got caught up with barbarians. After going to help the scout the next Maori went west, finally finding Byzantium and being found by everyone else.

I built Maoris til I had archery, then built archers. I lost one Maori and one archer when each floated up to a camp with two barbarian archers.

My plan like Vacuuman is also culture through conquest, though I've never won on Deity and only twice on Immortal. Right now I've got three Maoris, two archers and a catapult heading for England, the only AI with a weaker army.

After settling in place I developed two more port cities: south on the river for dyes and north across the strait near the six iron resource.

I was late with Writing and libraries so I've got to win some fights before the AIs upgrade their units to invincibility.
