STOP - Please do not continue reading this thread until you have completed and submitted your game.
Please attach your final, first play through, .Civ5Save file, saved AFTER the victory ceremony if you were not conquered (using the "Lemme play one more turn" feature.) In your post.

Turn 198 Domination Victory.

This was a slow start, but once the Iroquois production snowball got rolling the pace picked up!

I settled in place and went scout, scout, worker to start. That got me to 3 pop where I used the worker and one stolen from the Dutch to chop a few tiles to speed settler production.

My early ruins were culture, spearman upgrade, culture, and (very helpfully) sailing, a 3rd tier tech. That allowed me to open tradition and honour before continuing with the tradition tree and later adding the exploration opener and a few other honour policies.

My expands took longer than expected due to an inconvenient barb camp just right of the Ivory. I only had a scout in the area and couldn't clear the camp, so I had to march the settler all the way over to the left and settle Osininka south of Amsterdam near cotton and gems while I brought the spearman back to clear the camp before settling Grand River there.

I had some luck with early city state quests and was allied with two mercantile states which gave me lots of room to trade luxuries or give them away for friendships. Early on I was friends with William and Gajah (which, of course, was not to last!)

I prioritized Optics to get lighthouses up in the capital and Grand River. Osininka built the Great Lighthouse since I was early to the tech. I built reciprocal food cargo ships between the cap and Grand River ASAP. After getting the longhouse in the cap the outgoing trade route switched to production. After Optics I rushed towards iron working to produce Mohawk Warriors, and then to longhouses and then steel and musketry.

The production in Onondaga spiked after the longhouse was built and I was producing Mohawk Warriors with morale from the heroic epic every 1-2 turns. Once an army of 8 with one trebuchet for support was ready I marched them over to Osininka and upgraded them to longswordsmen just before denouncing and attacking William. military production switched to Galleases at this point and about 8 plus a trireme were built very quickly and sailed up to Jakarta.

Jakarta fell quickly, and I then split the army into two with 4 musketmen and the Trebuchet easily taking down Russia. The other 4 softened up France but needed to be reinforced by the Russia group before Paris fell. Needless to say the 33% bonus to forest fighting combined with morale and rough terrain promotions made these musketmen impossible for the AI to kill. Meanwhile the navy sailed around the narrow passage to reach Babylon and take it after a few turns of bombardment.

The navy hung out around Babylon while I waited for my first GS to bulb navigation. I also Oxforded Chemistry to upgrade my trebuchet to a Cannon before the whole army went swimming to the west of Paris to find the remaining capitals. The navy took Istanbul before the army finally took down Ashur at turn 198.

Please attach your final, first play through, .Civ5Save file, saved AFTER the victory ceremony if you were not conquered (using the "Lemme play one more turn" feature.) In your post.
- How useful was your UA? The UU bonus was great on this map and the movement helped speed up otherwise really slow early campaigns. Also the gold savings were nice. I only built about eight roads.
- Did you use spying to your advantage? I got Guilds from Babylon just before taking it. Then I killed a lot of spies
- Did the map type help or hinder victory and how? The logistics to get to Ashur and Istanbul added a challenge.
- How did the difficulty level affect your game decisions? I went for the Great Lighthouse when I otherwise wouldn't.
- What Social Policies did you choose and in what order? Which Ideology did you choose? See above
- What techs did you prioritize ? See above.
- What did you think of the map and settings? it was fun to play the Iroquois on a map that played to their strengths. Thanks for a nice game.

Domination victory 1907AD (turn 327), which was feeling competitive till I saw the post above - well done fiddlesticks on victory by 198! Impressive.

Moved warrior SW, settled in place
Pottery>AH>Trapping
Scout>Scout

Fairly bad luck with huts, but got culture from 4th one turn 16 which was first that felt very useful. Also got faith from a hut giving a pantheon (God of the Sea), though didn't chase a religion.
Built 2 settlers, settled first to east and second far south with lots of sea resources.
Maxxed Honour, then Patronage. Took a couple of Exploration tenents, then Autocracy.
Wasted first great general by moving him unescorted between cities on auto - eaten by barbs :-( Should have been moving him manually and watching very carefully.
Struggled with negative happiness for several periods, which slowed everything down.

Conquering home continent went surprisingly easily. By then had Dynamite before others and had a core of about 5 artillery with 2 shots/turn and 4 range which made taking cities easy. Managed to land them and a few others with a few ships on Babylonian continent, and just take their NW city and make peace to get a foothold. Also used frigates and privateers to fend off several subs and battleships, with lots of losses, but capturing 2 battleships (long before I could build them), which felt like a key moment.

After 10 turns peace completed taking all but 1 babylonian city, then moved on to Assyrians (who'd conquered Ottomans early on. Easy work with overwhelming numbers by then.

Fun game, thanks organisers :-)

Turn 206 Domination victory.
I finished this game 15 days ago, but I still remember some details. I settled some cities in area between AIs, so probably that's why they attacked me, but they lost the war. I caused later wars. I razed some weak cities, to avoid unhappiness. I used trebuchets for all the conquest. I attacked and conquered last 2 remaining AI capitals almost simultaneously(Ottomans and Assyrians).
Longhouses gave me huge production advantage on this forested map, and need for roads was quite low.

I'm playing this one now. Turn 395 and I haven't won yet  Happiness is slowing me way down -- general happiness moreso than ideological pressure, but I'm about to have to change ideologies anyway because my people are unhappy and part of it is from ideology. I've proposed Autocracy as the world ideology and it's coming up for a vote soon; I might can force it through, but at -28 happiness I'm going to have cities flip before the vote. I have by far the most tourism and I have Futurism and my culture is good, but it doesn't matter. The Order civs have the tourism multiplier for more happiness. I thought the problem would go away when I wiped out France, because France (Freedom) was the most influential over me and everybody else for that matter, but it got way worse instead.

I built Prora and captured Statue of Liberty, and Order is very good for domination especially when you take Iron Curtain. I have so much influence with almost all the city states from Gunboat Diplomacy it will be hard for anyone to steal them away. I have enough gold to be okay losing the Nationalism tenet.

Even if I don't win, it has been a fun game. (I think Nebuchadnezzar is going to get a science victory) I don't lose at Emperor level very often. I need to declare war on Nebuchadnezzar as soon as the change ideology chaos is over, even if he nukes me for it. (he's 6 techs ahead of me, and I'm in second place. Everyone else is way behind) Nuking some of my cities my help my happiness problem by reducing the population. I'll post a follow-up when it's over.

Thanks, KT, for a fun one. :goodjob:

Diplomatic victory on turn 412. I toughed it out and stayed with Autocracy; I managed to get my happiness down to -18 to keep cities from flipping, then got the world ideology passed. Since I had so many CS allies already, I went for the diplo victory (42 votes out of 40 necessary, w/o Forbidden Palace) to keep Nebuchadnezzar from getting a science victory. I was going to then continue on to a domination victory but got tired of that because I would capture a crappy 9-pop city that was in the way and my happiness would plunge way negative again, and I couldn't burn them down fast enough like Atilla can.

I may try this again with Liberty instead of Tradition. (I went Tradition opener, Honor opener, finished Tradition, left side of Honor, a little Exploration, Rationalism, Autocracy.) I'll still only settle 3 or 4 cities but the extra happiness from city connections will be important in the late game. I also probably should have razed perfectly good cities in the early game if they didn't have unique luxuries because they kept growing even tho' I replaced all the farms with trading posts.

It took me forever, but finally did grind out DomVC turn t420. I really enjoyed the map, played another 100 turns after winning. Made HCA work. Thanks very much!

The submission system works and most are using it. Uploading your save also allows you to use the replay facility.

I tried it again with Liberty instead of Tradition. Domination on turn 359. It could have been faster but I waited a long time for Napoleon to captured William's last city after I paid him to goto war because I wanted to liberate it, and in hindsight I'm not sure how important that was.

I never opened Honor this time, although the extra XP from Military Tradition would be handy when I was leveling up my frigates. Liberty, Exploration, Rationalism, Autocracy(8), Commerce(1). I built the Great Wall to keep William from building it, and the GE points were nice to have too. Catherine beat me to Great Lighthouse.
