- How many free techs did you get by taking enemy cities?
Only 1. Had to make an early war against Pocatello since he settled a city between two of my cities. I had a city by the coast to the left of my Capital and Pocatello settled right in between so I had no choice but to raise my sticks against him. In my later wars I where nr 1 in science and coudnt grab a single tech from anyone.
I did learn one thing from this though. I will NEVER EVER choose the option "my troops means no harm" when Another Civ thinks your about to attack and you do attack later after all. Every other Civ were at War or Hostile with me almost hole game due to that Little thing. Damn I say!
- How many cities did you build? How many did you end up with?-
I built 4 cities. Two cities by the coast to the left, and I would have been satisfied with this if it wasnt due to the lack of the faith I had. I realised I needed that faith to purchase Great Engineers later in the game. So I made a desicion to settle one more above my capital at the National Wonder Mountain wich lended me 8 faith per turn. So that city had one purpose and one purpose only to give me those faith. Dunno if it was a clever choice or not. If that city wich raised the science cost of 5% would actually gain me benefit or not?
I almost pulled my hair off but a desicion I made at last. Dont regret it though
How did you use religion or spying to your advantage given BNW? Are these element more of a factor, or less?
In this game I had no religion at all. I did only get one Pantheon wich granted me some faith from those Salt in the early game. I instead focused on other early wonders to get those great scientists points and actually got Great Library, Oracle AND The Hanging Gardens
I did steal about 2 or 3 Techs, after that there was nothing to steal. So I did put one spy in my captial(I killed around 15 Spies and got stolen for about 15 as well
). And I had both constabilury and police station but didnt help. In the end I even had fire wall for the first time but then they stole from my other citites. Thought it counted for my hole empire?
My other Spies were making their actions in city states.
- What Social Policies and Ideologies did you select and how did they support your goals?
I went full Liberty tree(wanted to buy Engineers with faith). Then 2 Points in patronage tree:
Consulates Resting point for Influence level with all City-States is increased by 20.
Philantropy Gifts of Gold to a City-State generate 25% more Influence
After that I were able to go into Rationalism. There I Went:
Humanism Great Scientists are earned 25% faster.
Secularism +2 Science Science from every Specialist.
Free thought Unhappiness +1 Science from every Trading Post and +17% Science from Universities.
After that I started Ideology Freedom and Went following:
Avant Garde: +25% Great Person generation.
Civil Society: Specialists consume only half the normal amount of Food.
New Deal: Great Person improvements provide +4 value of the appropriate yield.
Covert Action: Spies have double the chance to successfully rig City-State elections.
Universal Suffrage: Unhappiness from Specialists is halved. Golden Ages last 50% longer.
After that I Went patronage: Scholasticism All City-States which are Allies provide a 20Science bonus equal to 25% of what they produce for themselves.
Filled the rationalism tree and then ideology:
Space Procurement: May buy Spaceship Parts with Gold.
- How did diplomacy go with your neighbors?
As I mentioned in the beginning everyone were angry with me since my early war with Pocatello and that Went on through hole game.
- Were your UA, UU and UB helpful in achieving your goals?
Not quite. Only got one Tech from Pocatello capturing hes city and built two siege Towers.
- Were any AI runaway's in your game?
Nope. I had the game in my pocket...almost
I had some serious problem arund 1400 ad when Pocatello, Byzantine and Marocco Declared war at the same time. But I hold off the attacks on all fronts and after that it was a cakewalk.
In the end I had killed Pocatello, took out all Marocco cities(exept one small on an Island) and two from Byzantine, inclduing her capital.
I won a science victory 1920AD
