Turn 60, three Civs dead

On my first game (as France) it looks like three CPU Civs have already been completely destroyed, presumably by barbarians.

Anyone else seen anything like this yet?

No clue. I'm just getting notifications. I haven't seen the destruction myself (I assume it is on the other continent).

They could be city states falling. Message is same/similar.

Most of those early "an unmet civ has been defeated" notifications will be conquered CSs (conquered by either major civs or barbs). If barbs take a city it is insta-razed.
