Turn of leaderheads?

Is there anyway I can turn off leaderheads durung diplomacy negotiations? Occasionally (sometimes once every few days, sometimes once every few hours) get a blue screen just a fraction of a second after the diplomacy screen shows.

I presume this is a video driver issue. I have updated my video drivers and the problem seems to be occuring less often now. I think its the leaderhead causing the crash, so if there is an option to turn them off, or at least not animate them it would be good. I'm willing to play around with the python to make it happen, but I'd rather not have to touch the SDK.

I don't know python or modding or anything. But you could take a look at some mod with static leaderheads (e.g. the desert war mod shipped with game) and see how that works and then perhaps create your own static leaderhead mod.
