Two players cannot be in a direct IP game together?

Does anyone know why two players would prevent each other from connecting to a direct IP game? Either one can connect, but when one is in, the other cannot connect... All are running the latest 1.52 patch and other people can join the game but not these two together.

do these two players share the same public IP address? if so, one of them needs to change to a different udp port. see this thread for details.

No, they are both on comcast, but have different public IP addresses. Their private IP addresses could be the same, but that is NAT....they each have a firewall/router. But can connect and play by themselves, just not both together.

Try beginning a LAN game on the host computer and then with the second PC select 'Direct IP' and type on the Address of the Host.
I use this method because for some reason it seems to take ages to find the host game if both PC's use 'LAN connection'

Edit: Sorry... just realised you are playing over the net. My bad.

effectivally each machine has to be able to see every other machine - make sure thier firewalls are not causing problems.

2nd suggestion - search for a great utility called Hamachi - it creates a virtual LAN over the internet - we had some odd issues until we started using Hamachi.

it's a stretch, but I'd suggest that one of the players either change their port, or change to a different private IP address. I don't really expect this to work, but it would be *highly* illuminating if it does.

you see, for some reason when you connect to the game server, the server knows both your public IP address *and* your private IP address, and under certain circumstances it will try to contact you using your private IP address. there's a small possibility that some bug related to this dual-tracking of addresses may cause problems when different players happen to share the same private address.

Thanks. I'll give that a try, I'll have to change their home DHCP ranges, but it should not be a problem.
