Two things: Video freeze and Leader names in BTS

First off, the victory movies and begining movie both freeze mid play. The victory movie freezes immediately, while the begining movie freezes as soon as the Firaxis logo comes up.

Secondly, and more of a minor problem than anything else, my leader name is always "Dain the (forget the title)" from you know which mod. This is a recent change, as before it was always "HP Administrator." In the original Civ 4, it was whichever leader you were playing as, something I like better than Dain or HP Admin.

The first problem is more frustrating and keeps me from having the full amount of fun that I should be having, while the second is rather minor, but I'd still be happy if it were fixed.

the first is a problem between the game and your graphics card - are your drivers updated?
second: open my games\<gamename>\civilizationIV.ini
and set the following:

; In-game Alias
Alias = 0

to

; In-game Alias
Alias = your name

ok this should run just fine - which videos are problematic?
you might need to set hidemoviebackground from 0 to 1 in the civilizationIV.ini

hidemoviebackground also affects some screens in the game, though you are right that it won't affect the intro - its still worth a shot

My graphics always skip on movies a bit, some are ok but the game has never really liked my graphics card, a slightly supped up version of the old Geforce 5600 (256Mb), the drivers are as update as they can possibly be as is directx with Civ installed over the top, so I just learned to live with it.

try the following setting in civilizationIV.ini:

BinkNoSkip = 1

change that to


; Don't skip frames if falling behind
BinkNoSkip = 0

Your problem sounds like a codec problem many videos even games use a codec & if you don't have updated ones videos will skip & freeze
