Ucel02 - Rulers of the world

Well... Fun set of turns.

Here goes:

0 - 980 AD I turn off avoid growth in a number of our cities. We're at around 10 or 11 happiness, and they were at only 5-6 pop. I start research on Metal Casting.

IBT - Hatty builds the great Library.

1 - 1000AD - Clamfishpig finishes it's monastary and starts on a Courthouse. Bangalore comes out of anarchy and starts on a barracks and Rome begins producing an archer.

BEFORE:

Our army is in place next to Bombay, and bombardment begins. One swordsman is sent towards Culcutta to pillage the iron if it's been hooked up.

IBT - Hmm... "The following deal has been canceled: Peace treaty to Ceaser for Peace treaty" :eek: Is he stupid?

No, wait:

That makes more sense. I guess Napolean got to him first.

2 - 1010AD Karakorum: Sword--> Market. Our economy needs serious help.
Cumae: Sword --> Granary

Bombardment continues, leaving Bombay at 4%.

3 - 1020AD Neapolis: Sword --> Granary.

One more bombardment for good measure, brings bombay to 0%. A couple of catapult attacks later:
AFTER:

I send our remaining troops towards Calcutta.

4 - 1030 Antium: Axe --> Granary.

Two archers and a settler leave calcutta :weed:

EDIT: Damnit, the rest was typed here, but disappeared. <sigh>

Onwards.

The archers and settler were easily defeated by a catapult and swordsman in the area. The captured worker starts on a road to Calcutta.

5 - 1040AD

Beshbalik: Temple --> Archer
Turfan: Temple --> Market

IBT: Hatty starts a golden age. An indian warrior pillages a pasture near Antium. I hadn't noticed him.

6 - 1050 We kill the pillaging indian, and start rebuilding the pasture.

The bombardment of Calcutta commences, with a few reenforcements still en route.

Cumea: Granary --> Market
Rome: Archer --> Courthouse.

7 - 1060

Beshbalik: Archer --> Market
Antium: Granary --> Courthouse

Bombardment brings Calcutta down to 0% defense. Two remaining catapults suicide attack (at losing odds). Both win, and Calcutta is reduced to one weakened defender. If I were a little bit smarter, we could have captured Calcutta this turn, but I forget to unfortify the waiting army, and end the turn. :blush:

8 - 1070

A swordsman and axeman both die against the archer (at something like 6-4 odds, go figure) but the next attacker wins easily. Calcutta has built a catapult. All our units are in one stack.:sad: This could be a problem.

Unless, of course, we kill the catapult this turn and capture Calcutta. :D Our troops begin moving west.

IBT: Ghandi requests peace. I say 'Sure, if you give us two cities.' He replies 'Make us a more reasonable offer.' I say 'DIE!!!!!!!!!'

9 - 1080 AD

Research finishes on Metal Casting, and I start on Feudalism, but feel free to change.

Neapolis: Granary --> Market.

Ghandi's capital is the next city in range. It only had 4 archers defending, so it should be easy enough for the next person to capture. Our army is still a few turns away and slightly hurt, but there's a medic2 in the stack. I believe some of them have some movement left, I was going to let them wait and move together.

My notes claim I've played 10 turns, but typing it up now, it seems like it was only 9 :crazyeye:

Anyway, here it is; enjoy!

Good set it looks like.

Ceasar gone and we got most of his land.
Ghandi about to be gone adm we got most of his land.

Research-wise I think we ought to hit guilds (if we didn't already) for markets.

Feudalism might not be bad either though I suppose . . . isn't that longbows?

5 shall be the number of thy counting and the number of thy counting shall be 5. 4 is not enough, 6 is too much.

When I was but a youngster, my Mother used to say "If you don't stop/do ____ before I count to five, you're going to get a smack" Needless to say I didn't do the requested, hence five has forever been associated with punishment! Damn the evil parents (I suppose Philip Larkin's a little too rude to post here)

Nice work Greggo. Reckon we could squeeze some nice techs out of Ghandi. We should seriously consider converting to Taoism by the way guys. State religion, get the next Great Prophet to build the Dao Miao or whatever it's called. We'd also get +1 happiness in all cities with state religion, which is a fair few - converting the rest wouldn't be difficult either.

I was thinking of converting during my set, but decided to leave it for a bit.

1 - We didn't need the happiness as far as I could tell.
2 - We were getting more culture with multiple religions.
3 - With 2 wars back to back, some peace time would be helpful, and didn't want to antagonize anyone.
4 - Since we were mainly still in war mode, didn't want to delay reenforcements

In a single player game, I would have waited till getting the GP, then building the cash building and converting. Just my 2 cents.

--Greggo

Fair points. I was unaware that our happiness was building up. Anybody got it?

Got it, playing now.

Turn 168 (1080 AD)
Preflight check: Set all of our cities to emphasize food. I don't like being this far below the happiness limit (4 or 5 in some cases). I'll try to stop one short of the limit, as switching off hereditary rule will kill some happiness.

Set a priest in karakorum to pop a GP

Catapult promoted: Accuracy
Catapult promoted: Barrage I

Turn 169 (1090 AD)
Farm a cottage near Karak - we need food to support the productoin potential here
Karakorum finishes: Market

Turn 170 (1100 AD)

Gandhi's hiding on "Australia"

Karakorum begins: Forge

Turn 171 (1110 AD)
Calcutta begins: Forge

Turn 172 (1120 AD)

Turn 173 (1130 AD)
We reach Delhi. The catapults bombard it down to 3%:

And we take the city:

Archer promoted: City Garrison I
Swordsman loses to: Indian Archer (1.02/3)
Swordsman defeats (3.84/6): Indian Archer
Swordsman defeats (6.00/6): Indian Archer
Swordsman defeats (3.30/6): Indian Archer
Swordsman defeats (5.34/6): Indian Archer
Judaism has spread: Delhi
Hinduism has spread: Delhi
Captured Delhi (Gandhi)
Bangalore finishes: Barracks

Gandhi sends a new settler out, defended by 2 archers. Not the smartest decision he's ever made....

*inter-turn*
Doh! Monty declares! What'd I do? He doesn't look too proud of it...

Turn 174 (1140 AD)
War weariness sets in - I turn off growth in favor of production

Bangalore begins: Granary
Axeman defeats (5.00/5): Aztec Warrior
Swordsman defeats (4.44/6): Indian Archer
Swordsman promoted: City Raider II
Neapolis begins: Buddhist Temple
Swordsman promoted: Shock

Turn 175 (1150 AD)

Monty declares on Gandhi too - start heading for Madras so we get it before he does. It's in a great strategic location, sealing off Monty from the rest of our empire. Should be an interesting occupation, no matter who takes it from Gandhi first.

Axeman promoted: City Raider I
Swordsman promoted: City Raider I
Tech learned: Feudalism

Turn 176 (1160 AD)
Start on machinery to get to optics and start scouting good new-world city sites with our caravels.

Looks like Gandhi will get Karachi (India's new city) before our Cover Axe Can:

Research begun: Machinery
Bangalore begins: Spearman
Turfan finishes: Market

Turn 177 (1170 AD)
Rush a spear in Bangalore, as there are 2 horses and a chariot knocking on the door.

Turfan begins: Spearman
Clampigfish begins: National Epic
Turfan finishes: Spearman
Clampigfish finishes: Courthouse
Bangalore finishes: Spearman

*inter-turn*
DAMN! Peter declares on us - there goes Delhi.

I start bringing the sword / cat stack back from Madras, as the Aztecs just captured it anyways.

Turn 178 (1180 AD)

I expel two of the Karachi-razing Aztecs from our lands. There are still a couple of injured horse-archers running around.

I rush an axe in Delhi, killing 2 citizens and hopefully a sword of Peter's.

Turfan begins: Longbowman
Spearman promoted: Combat II
Spearman defeats (1.44/4): Aztec Horse Archer
Axeman defeats (4.15/5): Aztec Chariot
Spearman promoted: Combat II
Delhi begins: Longbowman
Delhi begins: Axeman
Delhi finishes: Axeman
Axeman promoted: Combat II

I'd like to get a toe-hold on that big sotuhern island if we can - there's a great spot with 2 fishes to the south of Rome. Our galley is 6 turns away. We might not want to spare any hammers for a settler yet, but we should before our window of opportunity closes.

Here's the 1180 save.

*#@&%(@&(%(*@#&% Peter and Monty.... :mad:

Daaaamn you guys are getting dogpiled this game. Bad rolls of the dogpile dice here. Good luck.

Thanks. Luckily both Peter and Monty are coming at us from the same spot (which is only about 4 tiles wide). 2-front dogpiles are a LOT harder to defend against. We have a huge stack of swords and cats in that chokepoint area also, so hopefully they can do some damage.

Now you thank me for Chichen Itza, guys.
They've tasted a fresh blood - found our cities weakly defended and therefore declared. Should I look for allies for this war or just make a bunch of promotions and finish it without result?

I double that Peter just declared. Either Gandhi or Monty brought him into this mess.

I wonder if you could get Hattie in against Monty? My thinking here is that since Hattie/Peter/Ghandi are all running Hinduism, if Hattie declares on Monty, she might drag Peter into that war and divert them in that direction.

Alternatively, we could try getting either France or America into it too.

I can grab it tonight/tomorrow then.

I'll see what can be done with all of these posers joining the ant-Mongolian movement. And I'll see what can be done with that island as well.

They just hate us because we're beatiful. I can understand Monty declaring, it's his nature. But Peter's sneak attack because I was going to finish off mongolia... that's just cold. I hope he doesn't raze Delhi - it's a double-holy city.

I should also mention that I'll be out of town from December 20th to January 14th.

Psst! We ARE Mongolia :lol:

But yeah, with guys like Alexander and Montezuma you kind of expect this sort of thing. I don't think I've ever played a game with Peter in it so I don't know much about his AI behavior.

He was probably either bribed into it or saw a chance to expand out of his little hole in the wall with a severely crippled Ghandi right next door.

I'll be out from Dec 22 - 27th.

Preturn 1180 AD

We are #1 in score. I like that.
I see Delhi is empty and Peter has a big ol' stack outside of it. That's bad.
I further see that we have ZERO military capability at this point. We barely have people gaurding our cities let alone an attack force of any kind.
I see a stack of American troops wandering around our place.

- Turfan Sword sent ot Karakorum

- Check that . . .I found our army outside of Delhi!! I feel better now.

- Hmm . . .America & Ghandi each have a city on that island to our SE. Also, Monty has a Galley w/ longbow/Settler right outside of Mongolian Rome . . .it's probably headed that way too. I wonder if I can get America to declare on Monty.

= Roos & Hattie don't like us enough to declare on anybody. We "declared on their friends." Pfft . . .whatever.
= Louis will declare on anybody but Roos, but we apparently don't have whatever it would take to buy him off.
= Izzy is the only one with no minuses but she's in debt and unwilling to declare.
= Monty & Petey won't talk. Fine. Be that way.

- Monty has a coulple injured horses in our [formerly Indian] turf but he doesn't seem to be real into this war, y'know?

Aaaaand Go!

T1 1190

- OUr Axe builds in Delhi before Petey attacks but of course is killed anyway. As Expected, Delhi is [temporarily] Russian now.

* Interesting: Ghandi wants to give us Music for metal casting + $500 . . .Of course this is ridiculous and I decline, but I notice that he has a +1 with us for "mutual military struggle."

- Karakorum forge -> sword
- Rome court -> longbow
- Antium court -> cat

**Louis build Sistene**

+ Our wounded Axe takes out a wounded Aztec horse outside Bangalore

Civ4ScreenShot0074.jpg

+ Our galley takes out Texcoco clams. No soup for you!

*** Peter put most of his stack into Delhi, but left 4 out where they were. While I considered attacking this smaller stack, I noticed that Louis has a warrior in this stack as well. I certainly don't want to attack Louis right now and I have no idea how an attack on a mixed stack like thismight work, especially with collateral cats. . .

Civ4ScreenShot0075.jpg

T2 1200

IBT: Petey attacked our Delhi stack. He lost a Horse, Sword, and Spear. We lost nothing.
* Oops, I checked the logtab. He lost Axe, 2 horses, sword and spear. Even better. Our swords are injured, however.

- Bebasheik -> something -> sword
- Turfan Longbow -> monastery [4] (it's away form battle region and we need to squeeze in infra with troops)

* I took a shot and tried to kill his galley with the settler over by "australia" but failed. Ah well.

I think our army can take Delhi with most of Peter's forces in there being horses & spears, but only if we're fully healed. Attacking with the cats now would be a waste for naught.

T3 1210

* Russian Chariot attacks our stack & dies.
*** Izzy demands Calendar. I give it to her. She will now declare on either Peter or Monty for Philo & Metal casting. Not right now, but that's good to know.

- Karakorum sword -> cat
- Antium cat -> forge

* I used an axe trying to take out a Russian horse archer outside Clampigfish but lost.

T4 1220

* Peter Takes out 2 of our swords in the stack.
* Ghandi comes calling wanting open borders . . . Mm'kay, NO!

+ I used the archer in our Dehli stack to take out a Russian sword that was injured killing our sword.

+ It looks like Peter has settled where some Indian city West of Bangalore used to be.

T5 1230

Researching Civil Service

- Karakorum cat -> crossbow
- Bebasheik sword -> crossbow

*** BTW, all troops are being routed to Calcutta for furthe instructions.

T6 1240

+ Somehow a horse of Monty's snagged our worker by Bangalore. He was 3 squares away so I'm not sure how that worked . . .

- Turfan monastery -> spear
- Cumae market -> sword

+ I got an axe up to Clampigfish and finally got rid of that horse archer that kept pillaging us.

*** I signed straight up peace treaty with Monty. Otherwise he takes 2 more workers next turn. We're only at -1 with him btw.

Now we just need to deal with Petey.

T7 1250

-Rome Sword -> monastery [2]

***Revolt to vassalage/sefrdom*** should've done this sooner.

+ ministack at Calcutta sent to Delhi - 2 swords/2axes/1spear. 2 were given medic promos to aid in the healing of the stack already there.

= Delhi now has 4 horses/3 spears/1 sword inside. 2 Russian cats are on their way as well. I moved our stack to the East side of Delhi so that they have to attack across the river to hit us.

T8 1260

*** Monty wants us to cancel deals with Egypt. I agree and then sell Monty dyes for $4/turn.***

Not much else going this turn. FYI, I'm really concentrating worker efforts on getting a road network in place. It's taking forever to get troops moved around, especially in newly acquired Indian territory.

T9 1270

* Our stack at Delhi is really getting beat up. We're down to 2 swords/4 cats. Reinforcements arrive next turn though.

T10 1280

- Karakorum crossbow -> cat
- Turfan spear -> forge
- Rome monastery -> library
- ANtium forge -> sword

We now have a good sized stack at Delhi including 2 medics. More troops routed to Calcutta. Roads on the way all over to speed movement.

NOTES:
- There are people on goto; a couple to the stack at Delhi, several going to Calcutta.
- I had jacked research up a bit ago to 90% at a loss of ~$37/turn to get civil service [maces]. It's due next turn so the research can be readjusted if desired.
- I just discovered some really good news while looking through things at the end here. Peter has a settler/escorts a couple south of Delhi . . .and he pulled most of his army out of Delhi!!! There's only 3 horses in there now so should be easy pickings with our newly rejuvenated stack next turn. Then you can probably go for those newly planted southern cities before they get too built up.

Civ4ScreenShot0076.jpg

Good moves!

Note: medics don't stack. One is enough, Second has no effect unless you want to split the army.

Didn't know that ucel. Regardless, with those little cities going up down there, stacks will need to be separated. We have sufficient numbers to do this and can now do 2 stacks with a medic each.

Maybe after Delhi is taken, 1 stack can head down to take out the little cities, and 1 can go into Peter's actual territiory and make him suffer.

OK. Got it. Shall hopefully play it tonight. Basic plan as I see is to take out Delhi then use it as a chokepoint to restrict Peter's movement into our lands? We'll see about those southlands afterwards, but a heavy and strong defence in Delhi will be good.
