:crazyeye: Silly question I know, but how do you select different civs in that screen? And how do you get information on their militarys? All that I ever see for the rival civ side is how many workers I have taked form them...

Help would be appreciated.

Choosing civ is simple - just left click on the name of your opponent and you get a list of AI civs that you have contact with. Choose the one you wish to view. You can´t get any information about how many units of what type your opponents have unless you plant a spy in their capitals.

Spy missions can be undertaken once the Intelligence Agency wonder is built. It comes along with the espionage tech - right before communism.
Once a spy is planted, the military advisor screen will show the individual units that a rival civ has.
Makes it much easier to determine how strong you are, compared to the next guy.

Kinda along the same lines, Is there away to upgrade all of a group of units at once (ie All spearmen to pikemen)? It gets kinda tedious going through the line of units on the advisor screen and doing it that way.

Yes, select one of the spearman and hit Shift-U (I believe that's it). And all spearman that are in barracks will be upgraded. Then you only have to do the tedious thing of re-fortifying all of them.

thanks alot. That will save me lots of time.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up for me people!:)

lol thanx for the info, i used to upgrade 200 units 1 by 1 in the map, now i guess this can be faster now...thanx :)

When you select another civ (as described before), you also see what kind of government it has--a very important piece of information.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the only wy to find that out.

(Firaxis, if you are reading this, please make this info available through the Foreign Advisor as well).

Well, if you want to get technical, you could have your embassy investigate some dirt-farming corrupt town on their fringe for 20g and that will tell you, among other things, their government. Only it doesn't work during a war with that civ and it costs money, so just looking at the military advisor's screen is best.
