Hi all,

I've just read up on Training games, and realize I need this to make the step upwards. I have been OK on regent, but need to move up.

problems : I live in africa - (South africa - GMT +2) how will that affect ? I have 56 K connection, on mostly from 22:00 local (20:00 pm GMT) to about 24:00 /01:00 am ( 22:00 / 23:00 gmt).

Have European version, and PTW 1.14 (pref PTW - loving the mass unit move !).

Any prospective trainer's out there ? The last game at aroudn this level seems months ago.

In the meantime, I'l get my ass handed in GOTM 19...

Hi there, and welcome to the succession game forum. Succession games generally take place with time expectations that make it easy and possible for people from anywhere in the world to participate; location isn't an issue at all. All you have to do, is be able to confirm that you can play within 24 hours of the previous turn being played, and then you have 48 hours to play your turn. So, as long as you can check at least once every 24 hours, and can play 10 turns within 48 hours, you should be fine to play. Internet connection speed is also generally not an issue.

No-one other than me has run a training game for many months, and my current TDG is still likely weeks from completion. After that, I'm not sure if or when I will start another TDG, and if I do, it would likely be full before it even starts, as I have had many expressions of interest here and privately. There is alot of demand for one at monarch or emperor level, and if any well-written veteran player wanted to open one, they would almost certainly find their game full and popular quickly. I'm unsure if you will find a veteran player willing to commit to running a TDG though - there seems to be more demand than supply.

But, you could just start a 'plain' Monarch succession game, which would probably get filled fairly easily, and specifically invite veteran players to comment on progress. I think a game like that would get filled fairly easily, and you would probably learn alot from it. You could also probably learn alot just from reading past TDG threads (although you've no doubt already done this, at least to some degree).

Just join a monarch SG. Training or no training, there's always a lot of discussion in between turns and you learn a lot from it. SG's are mostly started with the intention to learn or have a challenge. So you can be quite certain that you meet a lot of fellow monarch newbies. If you're doing well on regent, you don't have that much to fear :)

And if there isn't a monarch SG around, just do what Sirp suggest and start one yourself.

If you first want to improve your skills before joining a monarch SG, there's the excellent War Academy at CFC. I especially recommend Cracker's opening play article.

If you want to start a monarch SG I'll join. I've just started playing my own first monarch game, and it seems relatively easy. But I'd like veterans to comment on any mistakes or misconceptions I make so that I can improve my game :)

I would like to be playing in a monarch game, if it is not PTW. Civ3 has a mass move command too, it is "j" for a stack. I'm asking here as I cannot start one... my name can curse a game from the title.

Anybody care to organise one? Put me down if you do :)
