i've downloaded about 4 or 5 different Earth-type map mods from the in-game online browser, installed them, enabled them. i go into setup game and choose the mod from the list of maps, and i make sure that 'Load scenario' is checked. during the loading screen, after the narrator is done talking, the music cuts out for 2 seconds, resumes, and then the game crashes.

this happens with all 5 mods i've tried to start with 'load scenario' checked. if i do not check it, it loads the game fine but then crashes later when i hit next turn.

single-player sans mods works like a charm.

i'm using Windows 7 and i believe Steam has my game up to date.

alright, perhaps i can get someone to help me.

what do you do step by step to start playing a mod successfully, starting from the main menu?

I'm running 1.0.0.20 on Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
I've tried downloading and installing Gun Range Units, Legions and Produce Wealth Percentage. From the Mods\Browse Mods menu I enabled only Legions; then I went in Mods\Single Player\Set Up Game and started a random game.
I did nothing but produce a scout, wandering around with my warrior; when I had the scout I put it in the same tile with the warrior, just to see if the Mod was working (it allows piling of units). No crashes.
Then I enabled all the three mods, and started a new random game, did the same as before. Again no crashes.
At last I downloaded, installed and enabled the Final Fantasy 9 mod; in the Mods\Single Player\Set Up Game menu I chose the FF9 map (all the rest random) and came to pile the two units. Still no crashes.

Maybe I could try with the mod you're using: let me know which one.

I tried both: True Start Location Earth Large and Shigg's Earth together with Legions, this time in Italian (usually languages different than English are proner to crashes).
No crashes in the first 10 turns.

It looks like there's something wrong in your configuration, or the game didn't install properly.
My pc is nothing terrific, I'd say: an AMD Athlon 64x2 5200 with 4 GB DDR2 RAM and the graphic card is a nVidia 9800 GT with 512 MB DDR3; all drivers up-to-date.
I installed Civ V in C:\Giochi (x86)\Steam\ etc. etc.; my Documents folder is on drive D:.

So the questions are (don't get angry if they look quite stupid, sometimes the silliest things are the ones we don't look at):
1) Is your pc up-to-date?
2) Is Civ V up-to-date?
3) Do you run DirectX 9 or 11?
4) Have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Civ V?

I looked at the thread Cannot Load or Save a Mod Map and they say they solved their problems by reinstalling; and in the post #12 there's an alternative method.
