Unhappiness higher after loading save game

Hi,

I started a game yesterday, playing the Arabians on a small continents map at King difficulty, normal speed.

I played up until turn 273 (1535 AD), then saved and quit. My unhappiness at this time was -6 (perhaps -7). I'm pretty sure of this since it had just gone negative due to me puppeting the Ottomans last city and the Germans cancelling a luxury trade deal. In fact, I was just about to almost go positive again, by hooking up a Marble resource.

When I reloaded the game today, my unhappiness was at a whooping -17 and my empire is severly crippled.

I've seen some mentions about a bug regarding unhappiness and save/reload but from what I can tell, that bug only had to do with games saved before the last patch and then reloaded after. This is not the case here. This game was started with the latest patch (1.0.1.383).

I've tried loading some earlier saves from the same game, but they too have much higher unhappiness numbers than before.

Here's my current unhappiness breakdown:

47 Happiness from All Sources
12 from luxuries
0 from policies
21 from buildings
4 from cities connected to capital
1 from natural wonders
9 from difficulty

64 Unhappiness from all sources
18 from # of cities
42.75 from population
3.8 from population in puppet cities

Policy-wise I'm running Liberty (full) and two picks into Honor (first one and then Warrior Code).

I'm attaching my latest save if someone wants to have a look.

I thought this bug was back. I started a thread after the last patch. I thought the game was started and continued after the patch. Responses where that I must have started prepatch and continued after patch.

I just looked at your game and everything seemed fine except unhappiness from number of cities. You have 6 cities and unhappiness from number of cities was 18. It should only be 14.4. Not that there would be a huge difference with your happiness but it is something.

Puppeting Ankara should have given you an additional 6.4 Unhappiness and losing a resource from a trade would have taken away 4 Happiness. I'm thinking it may have been possible that those changes hadn't been displayed prior to your save and after you saved them, they then showed up.

Another possibility is they changed happiness again. I could have sworn Unhappiness from number of cities was 1.8 per city and is now 2.4.

Since the saves show the unhappiness after the "bug", there is really no way to see what is happening or what changed for sure.

Thanks for taking the time to look it over!

The negative happiness from puppeting Ankara and losing the incense already showed up while I played. That's what brought me into negative happiness. I had +3 or +4 before that and went to -6 (or -7) after puppeting and losing the luxury.

So there must be something else going on, the weird thing is that it affects all my saves from this game, not just the last one.

I believe this bug is related to the courthouse bug. The courthouse currently removed the unhappiness from the city itself (not just the extra unhappiness from the city being occupied). I believe this bug is being corrected when you load a game causing your unhappiness to increase. Do you have a lot of annexed cities with courthouses?

I have the same problem. I load up the game to see I'm down to -20 unhappiness when I should be at around 10 happiness or so on my main save. Any earlier saves are now affected too.

Is there any way to fix this manually?

Not that I know of.

The whole thing kinda soured me on Civ 5 so I haven't actually played it since...

Edit: since this bug seems to have been verified, I guess it should be moved to the 'Confirmed Bugs'-subforum?

Had this problem too, I was around -9 when I played last night. Loaded today and I'm -20! Not long before the save I received a city from Siam in a peace offer, but it is puppeted (and does not have courthouse of course). No other courthouses in my empire.

We think we've got a handle on what's causing this. Thanks for your feedback so far.
