Unit Art Problem

Hi all,

First off, I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place.

I used to make small personal mods for Civ 5, and I recently got back to it after the G&K expansion. My problem is that I can't get the Art Defines to work correctly.
All of my custom units end up using the spearman model, and it seems that I can't fix it, no matter what I do.

- Reload Unit System is checked.
- The file is called "Civ5ArtDefines_Units.xml", which is the same as the original.
- Import to VFS is set to True.
- All units from the original file have been copied and pasted over, with my custom units added to the bottom.
- I've tried to put it in the list of actions (OnModactivated > UpdateDatabase). Although it seems to give an error in the log files, so I've removed it.
- I've tried removing my custom units from the Art Defines file, and simply changing the warrior unit (no success; the warrior remains the same).

Basically, my Art Defines doesn't seem to be replacing the original, since any changes I make to it are not taking effect in game.

Is there something I'm missing here? Maybe it's due to the expansion? Any sort of help would be appreciated.

Hi, perhaps I can help.

I ran into this problem as well when I attempted to mod unit models for the first time. I was following some great older threads that explained methods which are now obsolete and I was initially boggled why things weren't working.

It sounds like you're replacing the entire ArtDefines file. Things have been improved and you don't have to do that anymore! :)

EDIT: So, I believe you're doing everything correctly. Also, you don't need to set your own ArtDefines to "True" (unless you're referring to the art stuff like .gr2, .fxsxml, and .dds, which you do need to do). Just give your modified ArtDefines a unique name and only list the modifications you're making. And as you were already doing, check Reload Unit System.
 
Wow, I guess this is what happens when I try to get back to modding after so long. I didn't realise they changed that! It works perfectly.
