Is there a way to cap unit levels? due to the absurd amount of enemy units in the latter part of the game. Or maybe increasing their cost so much that fewer are built in the same space of time. Ideally i would like to see a number of units related to industry size and population as in real life. I.e Belgium could not support a army of 3 million etc. Any thoughts please?

There is no way to reduced the unit cap that i am aware of without modding the game, late game nukes are the most trouble free way of killing large stacks although they have there own problems aswell

If you wanted to impose some kind of cap, maybe you can just make the unit maintenance fees more severe. Perhaps that would control it more.

Personally though, I see no need for it.

Well if the civ wants to pay for them, or waste production building absurd amount of unit, then more power to them. Its annoying when you have to watch enemy moves for fifteen minutes because the AI still have 500 maceman running circles along his tracks, and you are attacking with modern armor.
But thats XP you will eventually get. Most of the time they are fairly good at letting these go, and upgrading a usable amount.

My first WorldWar now was against Boudica who had enough cavalry to give me the willies, and I was attacking with modern units. Peace for cities.
By the time Boudi Kicking War II came around, she had deleted all but about 30 of these on her own, and had upgraded all her foot troops to infantry. So that was pretty good for AI handling I thought.

I think they handle troop amount fairly well, and see no need for a cap.
