Unit Civilopedia Entries

AARGH!
It wasn't saved! :mad:

Why does this forums log me out after only 5 minutes of being in the same thread? It is highly irritating and now it cost me several entries I made for monsters.

Tht allways happens if you write too long. You should make the entries in the xml and upload the xmltextfiles instead as attachments;)

I m missing a few key entries... :)

Code:
<ConceptInfo>
 <Type>CONCEPT_MORALE</Type>
 <Description>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_MORALE</Description>
 <Civilopedia>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_MORALE_PEDIA</Civilopedia>
</ConceptInfo>
...
<ConceptInfo>
 <Type>CONCEPT_SUPPORT_FIRE</Type>
 <Description>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_SUPPORT_FIRE</Description>
 <Civilopedia>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_SUPPORT_FIRE_PEDIA</Civilopedia>
</ConceptInfo>
...
<ConceptInfo>
 <Type>CONCEPT_MAGIC</Type>
 <Description>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_MAGIC</Description>
 <Civilopedia>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_MAGIC_PEDIA</Civilopedia>
</ConceptInfo>
...
<ConceptInfo>
 <Type>CONCEPT_DISSPELL</Type>
 <Description>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_DISSPELL</Description>
 <Civilopedia>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_DISSPELL_PEDIA</Civilopedia>
</ConceptInfo>

...going from memory, it is a list of entries for the first page of the civilopedia/concepts.
I was missing the WFB concepts of morale firesupport and magic in this list.

<Description>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_MAGIC</Description>
is the list of key entries with description names, works as plain text too, but then you'd lose multiple language support.
<Civilopedia>TXT_KEY_CONCEPT_MAGIC_PEDIA</Civilopedia>
Is indeed the keyentry for the concept of magic in the pedia.

Probably the file is named conceptInfo.
(i'll post name-file and folder later, tonight when I'm home.)

Edit: Tonight, I promise.
Last night I did some text entries, amongst othe things TXT_KEY_YOU_UNIT_FLEE and its enemy counterpart.
I figured I could bundle them into a single xml with my name, just to make things easier to share with you guys.
But it doesn't work. The game complains about it not having a 'sibling' something. :(
Where does the - 'unit fled' text - belong then?

About integrating the magic tree with the mundane tech tree.
What degree of freedom do we have to change the entire tree?
eg do we desire to stay as close to CIV as possible or will we ransack it totally?

better bump this to get you to notice the edit of the last post. ;)

edit: Sorry Olleus, I don't follow the technical stuff very well in those two threads yopu mention in the next post.
Just in case you did miss these texts: (and because I hate doing unnessesary work ;) )

Code:
<TEXT>
		<Tag>TXT_KEY_YOU_UNIT_FLEE</Tag>
		<English>Your unit has fled the battlefield.</English>
		<French>Votre unit&#233; s'est sauv&#233;e du champ de bataille.</French>
		<German>Ihre Ma&#223;einheit ist vom Schlachtfeld geflohen.</German>
		<Italian>La vostra unit&#224; &#232; fuggito dal campo di batTaglia.</Italian>
		<Spanish>su unidad ha huido del campo de batalla.</Spanish>
	</TEXT>
	<TEXT>
		<Tag>TXT_KEY_ENEMY_UNIT_FLEE</Tag>
		<English>Enemy unit has fled.</English>
		<French>L'unit&#233; ennemie s'est sauv&#233;e.</French>
		<German>Feindliche Ma&#223;einheit ist geflohen.</German>
		<Italian>L'unit&#224; nemica ha lasciato la lotta.</Italian>
		<Spanish>La unidad enemiga escurr.</Spanish>
	</TEXT>

<English>Your unit has fled the battlefield.</English>
<French>Votre unit&#233; s'est sauv&#233;e du champ de bataille.</French>
<German>Ihre Ma&#223;einheit ist vom Schlachtfeld geflohen.</German>

A fleeing "Ma&#223;einheit"? I have my doubts about this translation. :p

I used 'regiment' instead of 'unit', sorry I love variation too much to be consequent in doing things. ;)
So a regiment is translated as a 'massed-unit'.

that, oder kamfgruppe.

Anyone think it might be feasable to code a small proggy that takes:
<TEXT>
<text>english text</text>
</TEXT>
from an xml file,

and translates this through babelfish(tm) into:
</TEXT>
<English>same english text</English>
<French>texte francaise</French>
<German>Deutche tekst</German>
etc.
then save to a translation.xml or same_file.xml?

It could save a lot of work.

I just tested babel fish with the text from above and get a "Ma&#223;einheit", too

The funny thing about this: Ma&#223;einheiten are units like: kilogramme, meter, gallon, mile :lol:

Well, the spelling seems to be all right. I think that such weired results are very rare.

btw: I sugguest "Krieger" cause it sounds a bit medieval. "Kampfgruppe" is much too modernish.

not as rare as you'd think.
With european languages it rarely goes wrong, but when translating to languages with totally different meme-roots (and sentence ordering) you get really funny results faily often. (or so my chinese colleague tells me)

also beware of words that can be objects as well as verbs.

Well I am a native Dutch speaker, but I rather just leave dutch out as a supported language.
Dutch (like german) equivalents of english sentences or words tend to be longwinded, also most people can understand english quite well enough.

(Did I mention I stupidly bought a 'translated' version of Civ4?
It's awfull: a quarter pound of useless paper. It really reads as if it was just put through a babelfish programme. (even the quicklist of techs is in english-alphabetical order!! agh.) >dies< rant over, sorry.

Thank the Gods one is not forced to install in the sold-as language!
