I'm home, where are you?
Since the old request thread for this unit devolved into a side discussion I'm opening this one. I'd like to make a request myself: Only discuss the appearance of the preview (good, bad, needs this changed etc)... Please no more discussion on the merits of one civ over another.

I haven't given him a weapon yet... debating whether to give him a rifle or the machine gun in the original art. I also haven't applied any textures so while the colors are similar to what I'm imagining in the end they are open to change.

Can he fly? :D

Good idea Kinboat. I vote that you give him an assault rifle - the more modern looking the better. This will be a cool unit for those who want to try to rebuild the Roman Empire in the modern age.

Can you make an alternative one with a musket? That would be truly cool. Then people can download the model they prefer. Please consider this.

AWESOME

trully amazing kinboat, one of your best works to date :D

a few opiniosn though-

A)if you give him a rifle, erhaps you could make an alternate, mor emodern version, perhaps even with kevlar-type abody armour, as well as the whole machien gun thing

B)pheraps the colour of his uniform could be changed to match more of the American GI type of green?

C)shouldnt he have th rest of the back-pack?

I agree with Antiochus. I don't think this unit looks modern (as in current day) at all. He looks like a soldier from 1898-1928... WWI era. Fit him with a Carcano rifle and he'll look perfect.

No soldier today in such modernized countries, such as in Europe, would be wearing such traditional armor and armed with a Gladius, rather they would wear kevlar armor and be armed with a Swiss army knife.

That looks awesome :) - a few suggestions if I may:

- This guy is wearing quite a lot of metal. So I would assume, that this guy is a WW1-age soldier. But could that metal be less-shiny?

- If you give him an assault rifle, then I'd suggest you drop the sword, and change all the metals to dark green /dark brown colour - like painted metal. But please, do leave the cheek-plates on (they are funny that way :) )

- I love the neck tie! Make it a bit bigger/thicker, and It'll be even better ;)

The "neck tie" is actually a scarfe. I don't know why roman legionaries had those scarves, but I believe someone in these forums knows the answer to that (might have something to do with the region they are serving in - like cold region :p ;) - well, you know that I have no idea  )

Suggestion :
1- Make it a WWI guy, giving him a rifle and no camo, just plain green
2- Make another version : same anim, but use camo instead of plain green, make the metallic part less shinny, and replace the rifle by a musket.

Are you sure you don't mean an assault rifle? ;)

Unit looks good. There are people more qualified than me already commenting so I'll leave it to them. :)

no soldire today is a soldire of the ancient Roman state either :p

point is, if the Roman state had survived, its far more liklly that it would influence military arms development in the rest of the world, rather then the rest of the world influence it.
besides, all said, in many respects, the gladius is just a very large dagger or knife

belive it or not, it wasnt for cold, but rather to stop the chaffeing around the neck of the lorica segmentata plate armor that legionaries wore- the scarves were stylish enough though that eventually, all branches f the military could be seen with them, regardless of having plate armor on- makeing the roman army not just the best fighting force on the battle feild, but the best lookign one as well ;)

umm, do you REALLY need more civ coloured spots? I mean, if you dont know what civ thisunti belongs to at first glance, its possible that more civ spots arnt going to help any better

Xen, I'm getting tired of you. The simple fact of the matter is that I like my units to be easily identifiable based on their civ colour, and let's just leave it at that.

@Kinboat- just wondering, since the forum will be going down late friday evening (EST), do you have any plans to contiue the updates of the unit, if thier are any, on a different website?

@zulu-think what you will, and check your PM box, I'm not about to divert the thread because you want to insult me in the public, veiw- besides, my retort is better seen privatelly anyway, lest I get in trouble
