Hello everyone!
[sorry posted it in the wrong forum, won't happen again
]
I am pleased to see some many well made creations of army, naval and air character, however I tend to miss trilling customisations of Landing Crafts in Civ3. Maybe some of you magicians ought to try to model units that bring the amphibious operations to another level in the game. My wish is a naval unit that combines the transport of land and air units (A combination of the Carrier and the Landing Craft, a unit that for example can carry and launch air units as well as carrying land and marine units; if this is possible in relation to the rules of the game).
An amphibious operation is a military operation launched from the sea by naval and landing forces embarked in ships or craft involving a landing on a hostile or potentially hostile shore. An amphibious operation therefore requires extensive air participation and is characterized by closely integrated efforts of forces trained, organized, and equipped for different combat functions. The complexity of amphibious operations and the vulnerability of forces engaged in these operations require an exceptional degree of unity of effort and operational coherence. The difficulties involved in conducting amphibious operations will normally dictate that the combatant commander will participate in planning, theater integration, and support.
Especially US has created units that fulfill these amphibious operations, other nations susch as china, Russia, Britain, France, Spain etc etc has also this capacity, but not in the same integrated and hugh proportion as the US Navy.
The naval units that the US Navy possess goes under the following classes:
LPH-2 Iwo Jima 7 ships in service between 1958-1997
LHA-1 Tarawa 5 ships in service since 1976 [the first of these ships are planned to be decommissioned in 2010]
LHD-1 Wasp 7 in service since (one more being projected and planned to be in service 2005)
The concept LHX currently being projected
The concept Sea Base expected to be in service by 2010
I am currently working on putting together information on the last two future projects. I have attached some material concerning the first three classes that hopefully can inspire someone of you to start model these needed units.
Finally another perhaps useful link: http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/index.html
Serving my rationale To make the life of my rulers merry and insightful
