Unit Request: Balearic Slinger

Continuing my request of units that, so far, haven't been completed :p I'm going to request a unit that can fill a variety of roles.

This is a Balearic Slinger. They were used commonly in the armies of Carthage and are Mercenaries from the Balearic islands. The intensity and rate of fire they hurled projectiles made them more valuble than archers to Hannibal. In the 2nd Punic War, each line of skirmishers would clash first (Carthage and their Slingers, Rome and their Velites). More often than not, Hannibal and his Balearic Slingers would come out on top.

This unit also can fill the role of a generic Slinger. Which, to my knowledge, doesn't exist at this time.

Here's the picture. I don't think the shield is necessary.

We all neeeeeeeeeeeed this unit! We have a lovely Incan slinger (Steph?) and a funky medieval Pole slinger (utah?) but we need this Ancient dude. He's so versatile, for one. And, uh, I'll shut up before I reveal my ignorance...

+ a very nice Inca (I believe) slinger by Kinboat. Much better than Steph's conversion because it has the right scale, the Civ3 look + no weird color pixels on the sides.

But it still won't help in this situation :p

utahjazz mad a heavy slinger a while ago that would fit this role well i think :)

No, he wouldn't. The guy obviously comes from Middle Ages and doesn't remind of Balearic Slinger at all.

Yep, this unit is a MUST!

If your reffering to the Pole Slinger, I don't think it fits, but I did think about it.

For starters, that unit uses a Pole to help throw stones.

Aside from that, it just looks more medieval

But that doesn't prevent it from being used a reference.

no, it actually more or less the same thing as a CRETAN POLE SLINGER, and as such could be used as a generic med slinger- meddile ages smiddle ages, slingers area type of troop that never really changed uniform no matter what the age

Cretan sretan... What's your point? Using this logic, this forum makes no sense. We can use standard set of CIV3 units for everything. Will it have a touch and feeling of ancient, medieval or whatever scenario? No.

my point is that med slinger all basicalyl look the same- the picture posted by Louis is a single slinger, in an army that would have been non standard uniform- they are just as likelly to have followed the cretan standard of dress of dress as any other

and dont, like so many others seem to like to, even attempt to try to use my logic against me- you are not me, and do not know what i think- and dont ever presume that you do

I completely agree. Like your first sentence says, med slinger all look the same. Problem is, the requested unit is not a med slinger. And the pole slinger from Utahjazz has what looks like a uniform to me, and doesn't look like the picture posted above at all.
It looks way to medievel to pass for an ancient slinger. What would be nice is something like the incan slinger, but more mediteranian/european, I'm sure Xen is going to be more than happy to provide all the info about this sort of slinger.:D

If the uniform, and the exact way he fires projectiles are changed, I think it would be fine.

Here's a comparison:

utahs slinger is a pole slinger- the pole sling being commanlly utilized all over the med. sea. imncluding by the baleric islanders

as far as dress goes, except fr the long sleaves, and what appears to be high snadal leggings, he looks fine- a tunic and a lether jerkin are common for all pre gun podwer ages
