When creating units, how does one put in shadows?

I mean for instance, if i was to simply create a new unit just by copying + pasting parts of existing units, (eg. Elephant and Archer) You know...just to mix the parts of the two to forn a new unit, how would you put in the shadows ??

I thought if a 'sample' the green bit (the shadow) and paste it wer it should go, it would work..but no?

Shadows for custom units is too hard to put in !!

I guess, this has to do with the palette colours/position of colours in the palette. But I didn't test it out. Could anyone (Snoopy?, Womok?) say somthing about how it works?

Actually it is within the palette. The last colour is transparent. Then the other 32 from the last (222 – 254) is the shadow. With 254 being the darkest and 222 the lightest. To make thing simple, I usually use only 8 slot (246-254) for shadow shading and fill the remaining slot (222-245) with a colour that is not used in any other part of the palette. All you need to do for shadow shading in PaintShopPro is to give each shade a 20% different in brightness.

Hope that helps. :king:
