Unit Upgrade Costs?

(from doing a search, there was a similar question in May 2011...unfortunately, an answer with the requested data wasn't offered, so I'm going to ask this question in hopes that someone has the data they'll be willing to share)

Question: Where can I find (or do you have a table/sheet with relative data for) the unit upgrade costs?

(Reason for my question: I'm in the process of generating a unit ability/cost/resource required/etc. data sheet based on the latest patch (v1.0.383) for personal--and most likely public--use. I've seen the latest reference guide that "gelat" has generated--great stuff!--but I decided to create a little "more compact" version with slightly different info presentation.)

I have/know all the unit upgrade paths (as well as obsoleting techs), but I'm stumped at how to determine/learn the upgrade costs without playing several games (or partial games) as several civs (to determine UU cost upgrades, if different from their vanilla compatriot).

A previous poster mentioned (not sure if it's just calculated opinion/guess or fact) that the upgrade cost is based on "the difference in base costs between the two unit types"...and multipl(ied)by some conversion factor based on difficulty settings." If this is true, then I guess, besides game pace (e.g., standard, marathon, epic) factoring, there may be one or more additional factors based on difficulty setting (e.g., Prince, King, Immortal).

But, as I said, I'm hoping that someone knows the costs for unit upgrades...and for sake of "normality," I'd like to prefer to know the upgrade costs for a standard (game pace), Prince (difficulty) game...or another level with the appropriate ratio-ing factor.

Anyone have some/all of this upgrade cost data (standard, Prince)?

Thanks, in advance.

I am not sure but I think the upgrade cost is propotional to the difference between the old & new unit :c5production: cost in most cases.

Why does it take 200 :c5gold: to upgrade from Hoseman to Knights? It should be half as much. Why do I have to break the bank to upgrade one unit? Units take forever to build as it is, so upgrading them is a real pain. I know what you guys are going to say: just upgrade only your most experienced units, but then by the time I build replacement units, those units would need to upgrade as well.

There is a policy in Honour tree which reduces upgrade cost. Also you can easily upgrade your army in about 2k which is a quite reasonable amount. Just sell the extra luxuries & have some cities focused on gold & u won't have any problem.

I think there may be room for improvement in your economy if you're breaking the bank to upgrade one unit.

Money is very important in Civ5, perhaps more important than production and culture and at least on a par with science. You really need to focus on cash production from ob/lux/res sales and trade posts around rivers to start and everywhere feasible after economics.

It's a good idea to have at least 5 to 10 puppets spammed with trade posts by the time you hit economics, as this will often increase your gpt by 50%+ when you hit the tech.

I usually have enough cash to upgrade 10 to 20 units when it's time to upgrade. I just time it so I've saved enough up by the time the upgrade tech roles around. It's not too hard, just requires a little planning ;) .

So, no one has any upgrade cost data for some/many units (standard game pace, Prince or higher difficulty)?

(Just checking in on my original question, since some of the responses have veered off into how to afford upgrades.)

From GlobalDefines.xml (version .621, in January I believe):

<Row Name="BASE_UNIT_UPGRADE_COST">
<Value>10</Value>
</Row>
<Row Name="UNIT_UPGRADE_COST_PER_PRODUCTION">
<Value>2</Value>
</Row>
<Row Name="UNIT_UPGRADE_COST_MULTIPLIER_PER_ERA">
<Value>0.0</Value>
</Row>
<Row Name="UNIT_UPGRADE_COST_EXPONENT">
<Value>1.0</Value>
</Row>
<Row Name="UNIT_UPGRADE_COST_VISIBLE_DIVISOR">
<Value>5</Value>
</Row>
<Row Name="UNIT_UPGRADE_COST_DISCOUNT_MAX">
<Value>-75</Value>
</Row>

The first two are simple: double the difference in hammer cost, then add 10 more gold. The max discount is due to policies and Pentagon wonder.

For the other items, I know NOT.

Use experience to get a feel for it, and have some financial reserves in case the manure hits the rotary impeller.

it is just (upgraded production - old production) * 2 + 10
the other things mostly do nothing - round it down to the nearest 5 gold, and the max discount never gets hit

OK, I'll go ahead and do the math to come up with the upgrade costs (for my game pace and difficulty)...and then compare them with a saved game or two to verify.

All the input is very much appreciated!
