Well, I was thinking mainly just for the sake of multiplayer games, although I think it would be nice for three levels of maintanence. Especially with the no Inflation option, which just makes strong economies even stronger.
1. of course there are the free units, which is usually a low number but can get pretty high with something like crusade.
2. then there are the normal maintanence units, which up until the mod would be up from the free unit number into infinity of extra units ... as much as your computer can handle, basically. Well, now there would be a maximum number, probably based on things like mapsize, and total strength. definitey less than 100, probably around 20 or so, as thats what mid game armies tend to be about.
3. Units after this have just as ordinary supply costs as normal, but each unit costs an extra gold per turn in unit cost, per unit. While this is theoretically only double, it can get pretty expensive to wield insane numbers, although I suppose that encourages more magic than ever.
Obviously this is just a shot in the dark ... what I really want is just to be able to fight out battles in a tactical environment, but taking leave of that, I would like for everyone to be able to fight in a basically even environment.
However, I think the most balancing thing for MP games is not to heavily alter the mechanics, but to make customized MP maps for RP games and the like. The properly flavored maps can make even the most tourney and viscous mp players soften up to the rp living world aspect, at least this is my hope and dream. THere fore I will try and start making maps for FFH2 multiplayer games. So that people do not win simply from starting locatoin "luck" and we are also not forced to play identically boring maps like mirror and team battleground.
