i got a few questions about units.

it looks like a few units are missing.. such as a nuclear sub.. if u look at some of the screen shots, it shows pics of all the units.

besides the nuclear sub, thers no cruise missel. or tatical nuke...

this upests me cus even tho cruise missels wheat to good in civ 3, i used them alot. and same for tac nukes, i loaded them onto subs and pre postiond them off the coast of enamy teratory.

I agree with you, Vietcong. This seems like a huge oversight on the part of Firaxis-and I hope it simply represents an earlier build of the game before these units were added. In fact, perhaps the reason they weren't in at the time we saw the screenshots was because they were keen to ensure that these units worked better than they had in Civ3.
I guess we will have to wait and see when the game is released.

Nuke subs are the premier weapon along with ICBMs amongst the large world powers.
I think there are still quite a few units they have not shown. Leaving out a nuclear sub or missle units does not make any sense.

Indeed, I will be very dissapointed indeed if I can't cause multiple nuclear disasters against smaller and weaker neighbours due to a lack of appropriate units... I even heard that spies can't poison water supplies!! NOOO!!

well thay said ther are only 83 units in the game, witch sucks alot.. i counted 83 units in the pic.. Y YYYY must thay count animals in thear,! y not replace them with acualy usefull units! like that nuke sub or missel or something!!! thers no missel arty!! thers only a sub!! this kinda sucks

Well, I have gone through the pre-release info regarding units and it says

Civilization will ship with a total of 83 units. This includes domestic units such as workers, military ones (of course) and special units such as Great People.
.

Now, though special units might also mean animals, it is also possible that this number doesn't include animals. If so, then there are 5 actual units unaccounted for-which might include 2 subs (conventional and nuclear), 2 missiles (Tac Nukes and Cruise) and a 5th unit which is unaccounted for.
I realise that this is pure speculation, but I truly hope I am right!!

Actually, I see no reason why they couldn't keep TOW AND have these other units in too. To me, 85 units total actually makes much more sense than 83-just because its a much nicer number ;)!

I'am sure there are nukes in the game - I cannot find any missile unit either in the pre - release info - but if you look at the tech "Satellites" you will be able to build SDI Defense - and without nukes, SDI Defense would make not much sense ...

I just ask myself if its possible to make the planet inhabitable with an extended nuklear war ...

it is cruise missles and tactical nukes- i think -that are absent- not ICBMs
Without cruise missles or tactical nukes no need for a nuclear sub i suppose.

One sub is probably enough for faster MPgames - two was almost too much in huge civ3 games imo, but it was probably due to an uninteresting modern era.

It's no use to add additional units if the gameplay can't support it - if it's still no focus at the modern time plus if it's a faster gameplay - another sub will probably be redundant.

There's definately a missile unit of some form - probably an ICBM Nuke by the looks of it. The world builder units screen shows an image of one around the middle of the last row.

In civ3 i haven't built neither one tactical nuke nor one cruise missile(and of course neither nuclear sub). And the reason is that first we have the choise of ICBMs(more powerfull and you can launch them from anywhere)and second the cruise missile blow up(as its natural) after hiting a target and was to expensive for the damage they can do.So i don't care if that units missing from civ4.

I rarely played nukes of any kind, but I agree that the ICBM was the only way to go if you had to play that card.

Heavy pollution always killed off my enjoyment of nuking (a good thing too, I suppose). Now that pollution is different in Civ IV, I wonder what else would act as a deterrent from just going ahead and nuking your enemies?

Thats true they would not leave these units out, there to good.

There probaly working on more units. We wount know about all the units untill
we go into the editor ourselves.

I think as far as the number of units goes, what we see in the screenshots is what we get. What gets me is how much the explorer and the conquistador icons look the same. With a quick look they're virtually indistinguishable. Might cause some confusion when you're playing as Spain...

Maybe researching Fission should add movement points to submarines?

yes a reduction of units is okay if there is a merging going on. In other words skip paratroopers but have choppers that can carry troops. Skip cruise missles and assume jets and modern ships have them. But then we are asked to skip tactical nukes and nuke submarines for - ICBM and One sub that ....carries nothing? upgrades or not?
The merging gets muddled here. U can't very well have ur sub carry an ICBM.

Why would you need a nuke carrying sub if you have ICBMs that can hit anywhere?

Same reason you do in real life. Keep the enemy guessing as to the location, so they can't be taken out as easily in a pre-emptive first strike.
