Units the AI doesn't use (or doesn't know how to use)

Make nuclear subs "hidden nationality", and the AI will build a huge number of them - my spy saw the Americans had built 86 of them in one game.

I have seen the AI use artillery before, though it was in a defensive manner. When I was attacking, during their turn, they used their artillery to bombard my units in my stack. They only had 4 of them, so it wasn't like they did much damage to my 35 unit stack! :)

On a similar subject, have you ever seen the AI handle YOUR high defensive units well? What I mean is this: How many cavalry and infantry will the AI continue to "sacrifice" on my Mech Infantry? And the hell of it is, they do destroy one or two every now and then (pisses me off!).

Subs will be used if there off/def is increased. Try that and the oceans will be flooded with enemy subs. But with default values, a handful are made and other naval units are built insteaad.

Conclusion: AI knows how to use subs correctly, but elects to use other units because they are usually more effective.

Heh, well IMNSHO, subs are the most effective at sinking transports covered by a large # of escort vessels...but I never fear that tactic from the AI

Increase SSN to 12.8.4 and you will have a hard time with your transports.

My first targets of opportunity are carriers, then transports, then BS.

Why carriers? I know bombers are evil but transports carry the troops (and marines) that can take your cities. Have you noticed in your games that sinking a transport sends the rest of the fleet home? I am curious if this is just my experience or if it is systemic.

You're right protecting vessels depart when you deep 6 a transport.

Only lost a couple cities to AI. To marines before I learned AI uses them, and to AI landing when world is too busy and hit end turn before remembering oh, wait didn't some troops land near one of my cities.

Why AC?
1. The troops will be eliminated anyway.
2. It takes AI long time to rebuild
3. At first glance it seems more effect would be taking out transport
trans is 100
6 MA are 720
total shields is 820

AC is 180
4 bombers are 100
total shields is 580

But I have to defend against AC bombers so real cost includes:
2 jets at 200
2 mobile sams for 200
Thus total for AC is 980.

Besides if AC is gone, it is much easier to get transports.
