Could someone advise please any details on how exactly the US reduces the war weariness? Does it increase the number of turns without civil unrest, or reduce the number of unhappy citizens, or something else? How it works under different govs?

Don't know how it works. I would guess it takes off a percentage globlally. Does not really matter at that stage, if you can take the time to build it, you are winning.

Well, it seems like a bug that they didn't provide any details on how it works or even hints on the level of its efficiency, so that the value of this wonder is rather questionable or indeterminate at least.

I guess you could go to a few cities the turn before US completes and see what the unhappiness looks like. Then check after it is done and see what the percentage is and that will tell you the impact.

It does not matter to me as either I will build it or I won't and I get whatever help it is worth. If I do build it, it wil lbe sort like the GLB on lower levels, just to deny it to them.

It often happens in my games that US is being built simultaneously with Evolution Theory. And not only by me, but also by AIs. If I complete US, then some AI can switch its failed US to ET and complete it in one turn. Therefore I often need to choose between two free techs, but only as a one-time gain, and a long lasting, but of unknown magnitude, effect of US.

Earlier I almost always chose US, but its effect under Democracy is not very noticeable, and under other govs I usually do fine without US. So for now I don't know for sure what is better and build them on the First In First Out principle.

There's no competition. Darwin is massively better.

ToE is a must-have if the game lasts that long. Probably the only one of all the wonders.

If it is about happiness, then JS Bach's Cathedral is the best. I believe the effects of US and JSB are similar if there is some war weariness, however JSB will still work if there is no war weariness. Just don't bother with US.

ToE is the one for sure. I would not be building US, if the game was that close. I would be making troops to correct the situation. I only make the US when I am stomping them, otherwise it is not worth my shields.

There are other ways to deal with WW.

ToE is the wonder that makes me go from "beating the guy deep" to "open in the end zone".
US is nice, but it's more an extra given, not something you NEED.
I don't build JS Bach much because I don't research Music, but that one beats US.
If WW is a big problem, try different kinds of war, or get better at short wars. Or pick commie or monarchy if you plan to be at war all the time.

In the currently played game I had built US and lasted only for 7 turns in the war against agressor without massive losses and any lost cities under Democracy before massive unrest began. It seems US definetely isn't better than ET.

The most valuable wonder of all for me, however, is the Hoover Dam.

I consider Hoovers to be way over valued. I do not make enough factories to care about it and already have coal plants, before Hoovers is even started. Not saying it is bad, just not a game breaker. You are already rocking when you get it, if you get it.

I almost always use US as a pre-build for Hoover leaving the palace available for ToE. If I get my timing right I complete Scientific Method, switch from the palace to ToE which completes the same turn, choose Atomic Theory and Electronics as my free techs then Hoover completes one turn later.

Getting back to the original question, according to the war weariness article in the war academy, Universal Suffrage makes one unhappy citizen content, presumably in each town. This is not worth building for the happiness effects, but it gives you something to build during the industrial age if you are playing 20k.

I try to do this too. I admit to liking Hoover a lot and often can build it very close to the time Coal Plants become available. This is about the point where I usually start to take the game to the bank. This is right after Replaceable Parts. Two expensive techs and free power.

Oh, I see that all my previous zeal to get US at any cost was in vain. :) Rather useseless thing for its price indeed.

Glad we could help.:goodjob: It's true, it is a weak wonder for the cost. I usually play Republic and favor short, sharp wars so I never found US that helpful.
