I can beat the pants off the AI's on Librarian difficulty, and will be moving up a notch soon. I can win hands down with any team EXCEPT the university, which is odd, because they were one of my 2-3 favourite teams on lower levels. You'd think with a tech advantage like 20% and a free tech at the beginning as well as free nodes, you'd be able to go nuts on the AI, the issue i'm having is with yang, santiago, and miriam all rushing me, (or whichever one is close) and I seem to only be able to get up to synthmetal and lasers by the time the AI has Nonlinear math and Particle guns. they tear me apart. I always play on Blind research btw so please don't suggest I beeline non-lin math.

any suggestions on how to succeed with the University?

Set research priorities to conquer earlier, that way you can still get your weapons techs in a reasonable tmie-frame. If your armour isn't up to scratch you may need to use nerve gas pods and offensive weapons to drive them out - better to be hated for your atrocities than dead.

heh, I knew that I'd get that response. oh well. yeah I dunno it seems like I keep getting non-conquer techs even if I set it that way. SOMETIMES i'll get high energy chemistry which i super nice, but I can't seem to hit non-lin math before the hive or believers, spartans sometimes. I found using probe teams to subvert enemy impact squads to be very helpful, but it's a pain against miriam. I'll just have to hope for a spawn near peacekeepers, gaians, and morgans. then i'll be set.

Simple:
First before you start the game, turn off blind research, and go for conquer and discover techs. Get secrets of Human Brain first so you get bonus tech. Get command Nexus and Citizen's defence, that way, including having sensors and children's creche, you should be fairly tough on defence. This should help you deal with Yang, Miriam and Santiago.
With tech speed, obviously get knowledge once you can, find energy bonuses, build bases on them, and tech should run fast and build recycling tanks. Build a lot of bases because that should help. Stop once there's a warning saying there shall be efficency issues.

Ok well i'm not willing to turn off blind research because I think that's the way it should be set by default. but yeah i should be hurrying up on those early military SP and good point about the energy bonuses.
