Strange phenomenon,

I'm usually too lazy to change city names during a game but recently I had one where the names started dupicating themselves. Even stranger was the fact that some of these cities produced units which were unsupported..

At the time it was irrelevant as the ai was down to 1 city compared to my 100+

Anyone else had this happen to them?

As far as the cities duplicating, yes. That happens once you get over a certain number of cities. The computer only has a fixed number to follow, so it startes to repeat the list.

I've never had it where units produced from a city have no support.

What version do you have and what level were you playing at?

What goverment were you running? Often some don't require support for a certain number of units.
What was your evidence that they weren't being supported? a name of NON could be from a city called Nonanopolis or anything like that...if it shows up in the city view support box without any shields it's probably due to goverment...if it doesn't show up in the city support box make sure it's not being supported by another city...etc.

Check the first city with the same name. They will likely be supported there.

I remember hearing about a bug that after something like 125 cities, any new ones would produce NONs.I think it was Civ1 though.

I've seen it in one of my civ2 games before I applied the 2.42 patch - didn't count my cities, but a *lot*.

Thanks to all who have replied back to me..

Couldn't find the game in my archives (must of got cleared out in the spring clean). Can confirm that it was before I upgraded to FW.

Does anyone know where I can get the patch for which fixes this problem?(Do I really want it fixed )

Does anyone know what the limit is for number of units before non units are produced ?

Since I run Civ II MGE (5.4.0f), this known bug is not an issue and I've never seen it. However, it is a known bug that was fixed by Microprose with newer patches. As I recall, the NONEs can be produced once you have more than 100 (or maybe 127) cities. The NONEs are indeed produced by cities (the ones past the "limit", I think).

All this can be fixed by applying the newest patch.
