Flatlander Fox & I are going to start a diplo game sometime in December. It will be regular random map, 1x1 ... King. We are going to start with all 7 civs.... but are initially planning on 5 regular players & 5 subs. We also might have some restrictions on Wonder building. If you are interested.. post here.

I will be out of the net in a few weeks, able to post but not able to play... :(

Rules will be needed, especially to get a good Diplo feel (And to keep Dog from crushing me :) early :)...

I am open for anything, except players who are not serious about showing up for game times...

I think we will NEED replacement players... Not sure about Tribe stuff, but I know the four from our Sunday night game are dependable.

Count me in...I can play as a regular or a sub....just keep me posted

Count me in on this, I´wanted to play a diplo game for so long now, and finally I have my own flat with cable...

Hey all, I'm an Apolytoner and only once in a great while to i stop to check out whats going on down here and I was surprized and pleased to see this mention of diplogames. I'm big into the genre over at Apolyton and i'm wondering how many games have been played here? Can you refer me to some threads? I"m interested.

diplogames aren't too big over here. i know lots of people want to play them though. hopefully HOTW2 moving here will spark an interest for more to play

I am pretty sure that ANY diplogame players will have to be selected very carefully. I have tried a few times to start up long lasting games, but it has always fizzled. Too often it becomes a case of "no shows" and "I gotta go walk my cat so I can't play anymore" excuses, after the game has been lost for that particular player.

My thinking is that if we had ONE that worked, then more people would be motivated to play. The only problem is keeping them, after the game is unwinnable for them.

That seems to be the case in HOTW, people come and go, only because they want to play this game, but don't realize that it sometimes is not much fun to be stuck with a little bitty weak Civ for five hours while your larger neighbors threaten you and such.

But in HOTW's case, people keep coming back, even though they really are in bad shape. THAT'S what we need in a diplogame. It's not the "house rules" or the map, or even your Civ that keep people coming back. The game itself keeps folks coming back.

Sadly we have no diplogame to speak of here. But we will. But we need to ensure that when the game starts we have people who are committed to finishing the game. Use the HOTW threads as a guide maybe, as you can read the frustration of some of the players there who participate.

I don't know how to link, maybe drake or someone can hook one up for me?:)

Heres a link to the threads. Note, this is the fourth thread about the game. So far there have almost been 1000 posts about the game, spanning from February to date.

But in HOTW's case, people keep coming back, even though they really are in bad shape. THAT'S what we need in a diplogame. It's not the "house rules" or the map, or even your Civ that keep people coming back. The game itself keeps folks coming back.

Yes, sticking it out and playing a role is what its all about. And determination has been rewarded greatly in our game. Two of the civs that started out rock bottom (China and Israel) have worked themselves up to two of the most powerful civs in the game! Countries that were dominant early in the game (Mali and Europe) have swapped places and are now the cellar dwellers. But the game isnt over. With well timed actions and good planning, either civ could get back in the game.

Australia has gone from Mediocre to supreme, Zulus have gone from supreme to mediocre. Mongolia has consistently remained above average.

World war seems to be on the brinks here at 1645. Who will walk away as victor is still very much up in the air!

As soon as hotw ends, I will be looking for a new game and perhaps it can be started here....unfortunately its hard for americans to play with people in european time zones......

For current statistical stuff on the game, check out http://www.geocities.com/history_of_the_world

If i wasn't working till 9pm or 10pm i'd love to play in a CFC diplogame :( if we could make the diplogame time on saturday or sunday i could play. :)

Well since the Apolyton folks are being pricks to us it seems we are going to move some aspects of the game here to CivFanatics, hopefully Flatlander, that will give you all the motivation to get a game going and keep it going.

Capo and I both initially got started with Diplogames by reading through all the old games, the classics, and we were rivited. The best way to get all the old games is to check out CapTVK's Diplogame FAQ. It is a thread over at Apolyton, I'll link to it in a sec, you all should make it a section on the CivFanatics page and post it on there for easy reading by everyone. But anyways, those who are interested should check out the Diplo-FAQ and read all the old games. And certainly read the new games too, Capo, Drake and I have sparked quite a few recently and have made many improvements. Some of the recent games were good, some fell apart and were crap, but i deffinatly think that HOTW2 is the best Diplogame ever.

I"ll link to it, read your history! Its fun stuff and will deffinatly spark your desire to get a game going.

Ok, the Diplogame FAQ can be found by going here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1494

And the game that Capo and I started discussing in the thread is actually what became HOTW2. It started with that as Capo and I wanted a game to end all games, the best people, the best map, the best settings and the best game. Since most world maps sucked ass I created a new World Map for use in this game and is the one used in HOTW2. Unfortunatly (GRRR) several people didn't want me to play my favorite Civ the Metalheads in this game so I didn't get to start in HOTW because of this (yes i'm still bitter). But I kept an eye on it and now i've taken over for the Mongols so i've been able to get involved somehow. (The Metalheads would have been cooler though.... :( )

Anyways, click on the link above. Read the FAQ and more importantly read through the stories that are linked there. All of CapTVK's links don't work anymore, but I posted updated links so click those.

In the next couple of weeks .. we need to work out who the players ( regulars & subs ) will be.. what kind of Barb setting we want, what kind of map we want to start on ( I vote for random ) & if we want any Wonder restrictions.

Dog

P.S. This will be my first diplo game, so I am quite willing to bow to more experienced players.

Dogberry i've played my share of diplogames. And you'll like them. After you get players and set up what settings you want. and if you want a world map or whatever you want. You need to establish a day and time at which you will play. Try and keep it that same day everyweek and try to start at the same time and end at the same time. I'd say atleast 2 hours. hopefully 3 hours a session :)

Hi everyone,
I'm one of the HOTW2 players and keen on any diplo games going. But, as you can guess from the header, I'm an Aussie!
So timezones can be tricky. HOTW2 works well because USA Thurs night is Friday morning here (near Sydney) and I'm at home on Fridays;)

I think we should move our whole HOTW2 story thread here so that it generates interest.

When HOTW2 finishes in a few weeks time there will probably be enough interest to get two new diplos going......

Well I am back from my little hiatus and am prepared to play a diplogame. I am up for just about anything, but time constraints will be in place as I am limited to mostly weekend or evening action.

I imagine if I can ever find Dog on ICQ, we'll be able to put our heads together and get this thing off of the ground...

Any suggestions here will be considered and appreciated.
