I realize you might not have enough money to do this all the time, but it sure would be nice to be able to do it at least until you've exhausted your money.

Is there any hack or anything that would allow for this?

It can be really tedious to have to manually do this for all cities, etc.

When you go to upgrade a unit you have the option to upgrade all of the like units. That should cut down on how tedious it is.

It does cut down on the tedium somewhat, but please remember that the "upgrade all" option still only applies to all units in a town with a barracks. You will not be able to upgrade units in the field or in non-barracks towns using this option. Also, if you can't afford to do ALL eligible units, you can't use this option.

In other words, the "upgrade all" option helps, but you still have to plan ahead, and unless you are exceptionally lucky, there will still be a fair amount of tedium involved.

Also, the Shift+U option does not take promotion status into account. So if you've got a stack of elites healing in a town with a rax & use that option, you wind up with a stack of upgraded vets.

Go to military adviser and select unit instead of cities, you can right click to upgrade each unit in a town / city/ metro with barracks, that is quickest way,

Yeah, when I first started playing the game, I didn't realize the shift-U option and I'd upgrade each unit individually - DOH!

I try to hold off as much as I can to upgrade, especially if I'm not at war. Even then, I'll upgrade strategic cities first.

I remember when upgrading used to unfortify units, and if you mass-upgraded you then had to spend five mimutes the following turn re-fortifying them all (in those days I had two or three defenders per city ).
