....voila, no Graphic problems (except a little one with the top of the title menu being greened out).

Caveat, I played over 1000 years on a standard size map...

I had been playing with a 2800 dual core AMD, a NVIDIA 6800 G4, Audigy 2 and 1GB. I tried everything, Harkonen fix, everything Take2 suggested with NO LUCK AT ALL.

I didn't have crashing, but all sorts of strange, unusual and at times amusing graphic problems that degraded the playability of CIV4 over a 1-15 minute time period.

I did exactly one thing, doubled the memory to 2 GIGABYTES.

Strange.....

So guys, on my system it appears that 2 GIGABYTES is the minimum requirements.

I have found that eventually all of the graphic problem reappear after running the program for a while. It just takes a lot longer (like an hour instead of a few minutes).

I'm running a P4 3.0 1 gb memory and a ATI 9800 Pro (128mb) video card and I have no problems running a large map with 12-16 civs until late in the game around 1850-1900 AD. It will get somewhat choppy and I just shut it down and restart my computer. Keep in mind I have been playing for 8-9 hours straight by now. I don't think 2 GB's is the ultimate answer. I'm sure it helps but it is not the minimum.

The symptoms you described are in the target for the Harkonnen Patch - it does not always work as illustrated above, but it has for many many people (112,000 hits on the thread, and lots of endorsements). Its benign, does not touch game code or mess with the PC setup, and easy to install / deinstall. Its worth a go in your case if you not already tried it.

Instructions on Post 1 of the thread, post there if you need clarification - the guys there are v helpful and will assist if they can. Its worth checking your settings (2 to make -easy non tech) are optimised for your PC. You will see on the thread, ask there if clarification on settings is needed

I have been running with 1G (2x512) for a while, but when Civing, I have to run it in single channel mode for some reason. Dual channel gives me all sorts of problems. I think I just need some faster, lower latency memory in order to properly run in dual channel. Time for some HyperX, XMS, or maybe some gold or platinum OCZ...

What kind of problems? Video or lockups?

Meh... I'm running 768 mb with no probs.... it's something more than hardware.
