I cannot run the game from a mapped network drive!

It installs fine, and everything seems to be ok, but when i try to run the game, it wont find the DVD sitting in the mapped network drive.

Any ideas ?

Unfortunately this is part of the SafeDisk 4 copy protection / customer annoyance system. :gripe:.

There is nothing to be done about it. The system doesn't accept any non-physical DVD drive out of fear it may be tampered with. In fact, it must be the first DVD drive. A secondary DVD drive doesn't work, either.

First DVD drive?

Hmmm, first in drive letter or first as in primary master, primary slave, secondary master, secondary slave.

I can't run off my DVD drive and it is the first drive letter wise, but it is the secondary slave with my CD Writer the secondary master.

Don't really want to start swapping drives about....

Not totally sure which meaning, Furiey, and also not sure it's accurate. But it's what I picked up somewhere else about the SafeDisk :gripe: system. Not relevant to the original question anyway.

Btw, welcome to CivFanatics, Cecile.

I agree my question was not relevant to the original question, just trying to think of anything that could allow me to play. I always found having the disc in the drive annoying, but at least I could play other games. I think this is the first game with SafeDisk v4 though :( and I'm just loving it more and more :gripe:

edit: and welcome Cecile!

Great!

i guess i got a nice expensive coaster now then

I suppose i have no choice now but to work around the silly safedisk rubbish after-all. Considering the number of people these days who require network installations, you would think they might tell you on the box, instead of going home to find you cant use it, and of course, since its a PC game, the shops refuse to take it back too.

The most annoying part is that is lets you install the game from the network drive without a problem.
