Whenever I try to play Vanilla I get as far as choosing my map and terrain then I get the Microsoft Error Report messege and can't play it.

The same happens for Conquests but I can't even get as far as the main menu without getting the Error Report. Suggestions?

It doesn't say anything having to do with the error like cannot load fonts or something. It just says, "Civ3(Conquests) has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

do u got a good video card, that is what used to happen to me.

I have an Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller, and yesterday I went on the internet and found an update for it. But because dell's are so damn amazing I couldn't download it. I tried like 3 times, so **** it I'm just gonna quit trying the game.

I've tried re-installing and updating my graphics card. The graphics card wasn't working and re-installing didn't work. My friend is lending me Civ IV so I'll try that without buying it. If it works I'll get Civ IV, and if not I'm probably gonna get WoW. Thank you all a lot for all the info.

Thats sounds like a onboard card. You should know those draw tons of virtual memory away from your system. Your turn times would have sucked anyway. On a low graphics game like civ3 you can shrink the defualted virtual memory allocation Set In BIOS for your onboard to less then 5% of what its probably set to hog right now.

Heres your Intel here trying to run Civ4. TCheck the link attached to the link and you got 6 pages more of complaints it won't play on that same model. Im sorry to be the barer of bad news so the good is that many patchs have come out since then. You might be alright

Truth in hand, even if you lucky on start up you will get taken down by lag after afew turns playing CIv4. I would buy a 60 doller 128mb 9550 and see how it gos after that

Civ3 is a way better experience on Todays computers man. I just wish it played this smooth on computers that were around when Conquest came out.

I was in need of a upgrade with a hapless onboard junker at one time. When I tore that leach from sucking the Virtual juice from my main frame I stuck in the cheapest 128mb I could find. The performance upgrade was so immense it blew mt mind! cound't believe I had gone without.
