Something I posted a while back:

..."vanilla" denotes the plain, original version. I first heard the term used many years ago, in the military, in reference to a "plain vanilla Top Secret clearance", as opposed to the "Top Secret / SIOP" clearance I was getting. (Yes, Top Secret has many "flavors", most of them classified to even discuss. ;) )

BTW: We *DO* have a "Quick Answers" thread stickied at the top of the forum, just made for this type of question. ;)

i thought 'vanilla' refers to the color of the box! but your explanation, padma, means, 'vanilla' can be used as an vanilla adjective for 'plain, normal, standard', e.g. ... vanilla coke. :D

Vanilla coke is a great example since you can also get vanilla coke aswell as standard vanilla coke, although I have a feeling that you already knew this :)

that sounds absolutely disgusting, good thing they only have coke and coke light here.
:goodjob:

I would have thought it was easier to have vanilla coke every day than play Civ every day as games take a long time so I like to have a break in between :p

Well, I don't know how is English vanilla coke, but the one I have in Australia is impossible to drink often... you don't feel the vanilla taste if you have it all the time.

Sometimes is the same with Civ... but I reckon no game can escape this fate. Some days later I'll playing it again.

Vanilla coke is disgusting. I worked in a supermarket until recently, and it is for obvious reasons vanilla coke sells less than 2% the quantity of normal coke.

goooooooooooood discussion!!!!!!
